Hello from rural NJ. The real competitor is propane which is cheaper, cleaner, and easier to store; doubly so since electric costs (thank you PJm) have doubled so heat pumps are now uncompetitive if it gets sustained cold which it does in your Ithica, Syracuse, Albany Romes etc
couple things, from rural upstate NY:

-fuel oil is way more $$$ than natural gas, so converting to electric heat pumps makes better $ sense in the rural NE. Maine is going nuts installing em

-sadly, nat gas may be better for human health than fuel oil, but it’s on par w/oil as a climate pollutant

WIRED: FPTP is bad bc in multiparty systems it creates the potential for basically similar vote totals to produce wildly varying outcomes

This message was not endorsed by real Gene or SM3/6 patriots folks we need a shutdown of grad students (we had nuclear missile defense in the 50s (insane!) and now SM s did it like many times during the Israel Yemen Wars

Its just annoying when showrunners complain the audience isnt supposed to like their villains. Its like, well maybe they wouldnt like Walter White if you didnt make him look cool cooking meth, or playing banger pop songs when Soprano beats a man, or have epic wide shots of Homelander killing people

It's because of Amtrak and their portal in line management. We need to abolish Amtrak in the northeast because they can't run a tunnel and they're constant delays. We also need to re-nationalize Conrail because their lines are also a
NJT is losing ridership because of our failed state leadership, which has allowed fares to balloon as service continually deteriorates, and as NJT workers continue to make worst-in-the-region salaries despite highest-in-the-region fares.
Another month of US transit data is just in, & DC's WMATA remains the fastest-growing major US transit agency, with ridership up 10% compared to last year!

King County Metro (Seattle, +7%) & SEPTA (Philly, +5.3%) have performed well, while LA Metro & NJTransit have lost riders🧵

So I joked with someone but I suspect a way to get Chinese and other EVs through the door is going to be some bipartisan "low cost only" EVs ie 15k and less because U.S. automators and hell global automakers abandoned that market
Cracks are starting to show in the western tariff regime against Chinese EVs
The European Union is reviewing tariffs on an electric SUV that Volkswagen produces in China, raising the prospect of relief for the German automaker from the bloc’s heightened levies.

So I did my bi annual long trip to Georgia. 800 or so miles in 16 hours (thanks traffic)! I did 2 hours refueled then 4 hours bathroom then 2 hours lunch refuel then the last stop nonstop. The best range EVs... are the price of luxury cars and DC fast charging is very expensive.
Lots of studies showing a similar result: people who buy "plug-in hybrids" do not, as a rule, plug them in. They are mostly used & operated as gas cars.

(My take is, EVs are improving so fast, PHEVs are gonna look like a silly kludge w/in 5 years or so, well within the lifetime of a car.)
Drivers aren't charging their plug-in hybrid cars, research suggests | CBC Climate Change News
Plug-in hybrid cars are a compromise for people wanting range with electric capability. But new research finds they’re less green than you think — so how should they fit into a zero-emissions future?

the jeff bezos owned washington post is the outlet responsible for making sure the primary complaint about AI was water. this may have been in part because jeff knew it was bullshit, so when amzn gets blowback they can easily prove their water footprint is small
not to be conspiratorial but the outlet that successfully pushed this line and made it the primary complaint was wapo

PJM doesn't build, the state (utilities) (or power providers like Talon) do first of all, and second data centers outpaced every PJM model for decades and the rapid transition to electric heating also outpaced models.
Giant utility refuses to build out capacity to address growth, instead collects greater fees at lower costs until things come to a head; blames bogeyman. News at 11
big late breaking news: the market monitor for the largest energy grid in the u.s., covering much of the midwest and mid-atlantic, has called to block new data centers connections to the grid, saying current course of growth assures regular blackouts

Said this before, but "AUSTIN POWERS 4" should be a spoof of "Maverick"-legasequels, with Austin as mentor to an agent frozen at end of the 90s and thawed now - but with a recurring gag re: how STAGGERING little society has changed between 1997-2027 compared to Austin's massive 67-97 culture shock
Watching AUSTIN POWERS and another reminder of the wildness of time.

Powers is frozen for 30 yrs, defrosting in 1997.

Surprised with all the reboots, they aren’t doing a 2027 reboot of how a secret agent frozen in 1997 comes back in 2027 to defeat an evil henchman.

Maybe too on the nose.

Dimon on why JPMorgan Chase is not funding WH Ballroom:
We have an issue, which is anything we do, since we do a lot of contracts with governments here and around the world, we have to be very careful how anything is perceived, and also how the next DOJ is going to deal with it.

I think if midterms go bad (Ie majority in the house is lost) Desantis will clean up house becuase he can say "I ran Florida I cut taxes and I am normal"
It's probably a combination of the assassination attempt, exhaustion, dementia, and stroke recovery, but the point stands. A key element of Trump's support was the fact that he went and talked to his cult. He doesn't do that anymore.
The fact that Trump is having to do a tele-rally for TN-07 is IMO, telling.

First Term Trump would have spent the next few weeks in Franklin or Clarksville so he can bask in the adulation of his followers.

This is why anti semitism is so bad! We have plenty of domestic issues and ICE is the bottom of the barrel of FLEOs you don't need to blame the Hebrews for iCE
That’s also because ice is employing ex IDF mercenary soldiers who do not know American or Tribal laws.

LLM code keeps trying to murder me at work (I did a test on a powered controller and the LLM code would have put a pneumatic device where my skull was (ie where i put a piece of wood or a plastic dummy )
At the risk of starting the flame war to end all flame wars...

Modern LLMs (GPT-5.1, Claude 4.5, Gemini 3) produce excellent code and can be a significant productivity boost to software engineers who take the time to learn how to effectively apply them - especially if used with coding agent tools

For comparison one of the projects I help with the automated farming machines are probably going to be ready by 2030. The amount of manual labor involved in farming is ... massive to say the least
