The problem with fetishizing the rule of law is that people have to break the law to resist fascism, state violence, and oppression. This has always been true, and is very much the case RIGHT NOW.

why has Katie Miller gotten filler to make her face shaped more like Stephen Miller
Stephen Miller’s Wife @katiemiller : “Can you cite the statute that makes the boat bombings illegal?”

@bakarisellers.bsky.social : “The due process

I love that most of these are completely up to interpretation. What is disorderly and what is excessive love of order? Only Peter knows
Before you indulge in any holiday mirth, remember that Peter of Damascus (12th century) warns against 298 passions mentioned in the Bible: harshness, trickery, malice, perversity, mindlessness, mindlessness, licentiousness, enticement, dullness, lack of understanding, idleness, sluggishness (1/?)

the pedo defender has logged the fuck on boys, strap in
The emails that you’re seeing now are news in themselves, but that’s because of how they’re coming out—a congressional committee released them—& the context in which they’re being viewed. A guy emailing a reporter talking about old girlfriends or saying someone is “dirty” is not a whole news story.

and also that for some reason Dem’s only option to oppose this super-pedophile was to… swing hard right??
My takeaway from every new Epstein revelation is that some powerful people victimized many powerless young women, many more knew, some actively enabled it--and we're still being told that MeToo and accountability for sexual violence have gone too far

My political hot take is that US voters should be able to recall elected representatives via petition - at any time.
No more hiding behind election terms.

won’t somebody rid us of this meddlesome Susan Collins or Hakeem Jeffries or Joe Manchin or Kirsten Sinema or John Fetterman or Chuck Schumer or Adam Schiff or…
NEW: Susan Collins, who claims to be pro choice, is raising money for an anti-abortion candidate who’s slated to lose the Virginia governor's race. A donor email sent on behalf of Winsome Earle-Sears comes as Collins' approval rating has plummeted to net negative 20 points. Me in @newrepublic.com:
Why Is Susan Collins Mixed Up in the Virginia Governor’s Race?
The “pro-choice” Maine Senator used her email list to support embattled Virginia gubernatorial aspirant Winsome Earle-Sears, who has called abortion “genocide.”

FASHION HOT TAKE: i don't know if i ever have seen an outfit with a chelsea boot that i didn't think would've been better served by different boots. they look like you're wearing rain boots but without the commitment to actually wear rain boots, something that is potentially an incredible serve.

Who targeted and assassinated the first U.S. citizen with a drone strike? Who was dubbed the “Deporter-in-Chief?” Who did the IIRAIRA in 1996 and built the deportation machine? Who extended George W.'s policy and was relentless with the 1917 Espionage Act? etc, etc....None of this matters now, huh?

Mass deportation and incarceration are not “distractions” from the Epstein files. These are crimes millions of times more horrifying than a ring of rich pedos. Liberals only harp on it because they think it’s something that could happen to their kids, while deportations never will

There’s a lot more to the concept that Rs were always like this. They always harbored these people in the party and advanced political and economic measures to crush the lives of minorities. And in many ways they were more effective because they aesthetics gave Dems cover to work with them on it.
like I just don't think "they were always like this" is a particularly useful framing for this stuff because the GOP of Trump is meaningfully different than the GOP of Romney even if both are awful and we need to actually deal with the real world consequences of what they're becoming

I think we need to talk more about entitlement in the “do fascists feel shame?” debate.

Fascists aren’t ashamed of oppressing people. But they do feel entitled to adoration for their oppression.

When we reject them, they act like an abusive parent, mortified that their kids don’t really love them.
some colleagues have suggested to me that shame is irrelevant because the people on the "other side" don't know or care what "we" (on whatever "this side") think of them. I have...not gotten that impression
