advocating for public masking isn't an "unreasonable demand" because it's not a demand; it's an earnest plea for compassion to the "good guys" that's condescendingly dismissed at best and overtly mocked at worst

what drives me especially crazy is i have never seen a clearer example of the wealthy and powerful fucking over the rest of us for their own benefit than the covid response, and instead of it being a unifying issue for the left we've just become crueler, less empathetic, *and* sicker as a people

it's never people well-acquainted with covid bringing data and receipts to indicate why covid-conscious people are cowardly weirdos

it's just regular-ass people going "everything's fine and y'all are insane" based on their own experiences, a completely unexamined cultural consensus, and vibes

i actually really like this comparison and wish i hadn't buried it

when i go outside i don't see evidence i'm living in a fascist dystopia; i've yet to see unidentified masked men abducting people off *my own street*

but the evidence is out there, readily accessible, if i care enough to look

if someone insisted we were safe from the threat of fascism in 2025 because trump lost the 2020 election we would correctly identify that person as an uninformed dolt drawing sweeping conclusions from deliberately limited and woefully outdated information

but with covid it's just...what happens

in one of my more...hostile confrontations on the matter i pressed a family member as to why they were able to tell me i was being irrational about something they, *by their own admission,* were paying much less attention to and significantly less informed about

*vaccine effectiveness wanes quickly and people are actively discouraged from getting them, end-stage capitalism makes staying home a luxury, asymptomatic infection/transmission and long covid carry on existing*
