The original piece inspired me to try (imitate) a bunch of stuff I've never tried before, like visualizing outlines of solid black shapes and using charcoal brushes to mess around with highlights etc

What makes the final phase of game development tiring isn't necessarily long hours. It's the intensity of the work itself. The number of pings you get, the amount of context switching, pushing several critical lanes at once. Tense decision-making. Solving complex bugs while the clock ticks down.
