It's one of the most important things to manage as a knowledge worker. I find it helpful to close Slack frequently so that I lock in on my main work for longer stretches and only check it at natural break points.

What makes the final phase of game development tiring isn't necessarily long hours. It's the intensity of the work itself. The number of pings you get, the amount of context switching, pushing several critical lanes at once. Tense decision-making. Solving complex bugs while the clock ticks down.
Finland doesn't build tall buildings because nobody wants to have to say kahdennessakymmenennessaensimmäisessä kerroksessa.

I worked at another studio that did this, giving the director's tickets automatic max priority which was named after him. Mental to think about it now.
