when someone claims they’re making a joke but no one can tell they’re making a joke than that’s sumerposting
One of the earliest examples of bar jokes is
Sumerian (c. 4500-1900 BC), and it features a dog: "A dog walked into a tavern and said, 'I can't see a thing. I'll open this one'." The humor of it is probably related to the Sumer way of life and has been lost, but the words remain. (1]

A 13-year-old boy was arrested by ICE in Everett and sent to a juvenile detention facility in Virginia.
A 13-year-old boy was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Everett after an interaction with members of the Everett Police Department and sent to a juvenile detention facility in Virginia, according to his mother and immigration lawyer Andrew Lattarulo.

The boy’s mother, Josiele Berto, was called to pick her son up from the Everett Police Department on Thursday, the day he was arrested. After waiting for about an hour and a half, she was told her son was taken by ICE, Berto told the Globe in a phone interview.

“My world collapsed,” Berto said in Portuguese.

From the police department, the boy was taken to ICE’s holding facility in Burlington on Thursday evening, where he spent a night before being transferred by car to the Northwestern Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Winchester, Va., on Friday morning, his mother said. The juvenile facility is more than 500 miles away from Everett.

The boy is a 7th-grader at Albert N. Parlin School in Everett, his mother said. The teen and his family, who are Brazilian nationals, have a pending asylum case and are authorized to work legally in the United States, Lattarulo said.

'Protecting children.' 'Biological reality.' 'Against nature.'

These are the exact arguments that kept us closeted. Got us fired, disowned...now some of us act like we graduated into permanent safety.

We didn't..."

OK, here's my info. I used a photo of "pies" I guess because I was snackish and low on visual ideas. Portraits of George Folger Canfield do exist but I'd have to request permission & am not presently in the mood to talk to a university. If you have any information (Robert Stack voice), let me know.

You have to love people in need more than you hate the other side, even when the other side is full of malice. You have to want progress more than you want vindication of a world view or the intoxication of self-righteousness. Otherwise, it's not activism--just ego.

Got reviewed in the FT and the Times, otherwise the silence has been deafening, as they say. Which is peculiar, for the most important sequence of books of the 21st century so far. Ours is not to reason why, boats against the current, the horror, the horror, etc.

If you don’t shine you are darkness.

Charles Wright, from Sestets
Tomorrow

The metaphysics of the quotidian was what he was after:
A little dew on the sunrise grass,
A drop of blood in the evening trees,
                                      a drop of fire.

If you don't shine you are darkness.
The future is merciless,
                                       everyone's name inscribed
On the flyleaf of the Book of Snow.
