Seeing a lot of takes about how Mamdani's win doesn't mean other left candidates should do what he did because it won't necessarily work for them.

As opposed to how well chasing the centre-right vote has historically worked? I dunno, man, I think it's worth a pop.

Nice to see that media literacy and critical thinking is going to be added to the national curriculum – that was one of the recommendations at the end of Post-Truth, published eight years ago…

So many disappointing parts to this story of heroism and bravery for those of a far right persuasion. Firstly the attacker wasn’t Muslim or a refugee and secondly the selflessness of the person doing his job who saved so many lives was a Muslim. How will they cope in this difficult time.

But people will believe him.
I believe Yusuf's been asked. He replied: "We made tens of millions of pounds of savings in Kent. It's the government that's putting up council tax."

And of course, people will believe him. I don't why but they will. And I don't know how you sort that out.

Osborne deserves a lot more condemnation, for not just doing austerity but doing it so cackhandedly:

1. Not borrowing to invest when borrowing costs were at essentially zero

2. Cutting spending by salami slicing every part of the public sector with no real analysis of where could take it
Late period Osborne: interest rates at zero and 50-80bn of headroom: and his priority was “don’t invest”.

Labour pledge to increase minimum wage in line with inflation. That’s going to happen in April and hopefully every year Labour are in Government.

Reform thinks the Minimum Wage is too high.

Nigel Farage has 11 jobs and uses a structure to pay less tax on his £millions pa

Academics in Assyria in the 7th c BC complain that admin is preventing them from doing research and teaching
I always find it quite interesting that while Trump's signature is certainly large, it's also essentially unreadable. Almost as if he doesn't want to declare who he really is.
A quirky observation in 1967 launched a field of research: bigger signatures often signal bigger egos. Today, CEOs can be measured by their pen strokes — and large signatures can bring in twice the fundraising revenue, according to a social psychologist.

It always surprises people when I point out that the UK (population 70mn) has pretty much the same number of homicides per year as the city of Chicago (population 2.7mn).
Looking up death statistics (always fun and surprising) half of the 21,000 or so accidental UK deaths are falls, poisonings claim a quarter, far more than road accidents (7%) Knife/sharp object deaths account for around 260, guns 29.
Less than 600 homicides per year seems remarkable for 70m people.

Heidi Alexander is sensible
Heidi Alexander, the transport secretary, rules out metal detecting arches at stations, pointing out that with the number of stations and entrances to each it's basically impossible. She says that overall, UK trains are a pretty safe place to be.
It’s marvellous!
It can be tricky. You can finally realise that your parent’s awful behaviour is about them rather than about you. But that realisation - that nothing in **your parent’s** life is actually about you - is not a lot better.

But yes, grey rocking is useful.

Let’s Move!

The Government is launching 'Let's Move!', a new campaign supported by Sport England, to help keep families active all year round.

Nearly 60% of parents expect children's physical activity to drop this winter.

Over half already don't get the 60 minutes of activity each day.

Eurostar is 75% state owned (55% SNCF 🇫🇷 state, 20% SNCB 🇧🇪 state) and is a monopoly on cross channel routes

BUT it sets prices like a rent seeking capitalist

What can 🇬🇧 do to up capacity and drive down prices?

It can’t control Eurostar. So it can try adding competition

How else can you proceed?

I think its now got to be the case that respectable people should just refuse to appear on panels with Goodwin, even if that means cancelling on the BBC at short notice.
We're now at "black people aren't British". Open sewer racism. Look forward to seeing him on QT again soon.
