So thrilled to share my co-authored article with @johnmundell.bsky.social on Gayl Jones's Palmares is out! We put Jones in conversation with Black Brazilian feminist giants Lélia Gonzalez and Beatriz Nascimento; perhaps we are the first to do so.

This was truly a labor of love and pleasure. Enjoy!

Nearly half of the nation's college students attend community colleges (per DOE). This may not be true of Harvard, indeed of any school in the Ivy League.

I was talking to some friends about living through the AIDS scare in the 80s and early 90s. Pretty much anyone younger than 40 will never know or comprehend what that was like (thankfully).

Were Duane a 22 year old diagnosed today, he would live to see his 59th birthday.
It's your birthday, Duane.

I am talking about K-12 urban schools where kids are drilled in 5 paragraph essays to increase test scores so that their schools don’t close down. Unfortunately, students are not encourage to develop writing voices unless they are privileged and/or possibly in college (though not even then often)
I wonder what schools he's speaking of though? During all the years I taught college composition, it was always about helping students discover and find confidence in their own voice. Every other teacher in my department would've said the same.
It is kind of ironic that schools have spent so many years trying to convince students that academic writing should be completely devoid of any personal voice and are now in a state of crisis trying to deal with students using generative AI to write assignments that completely take away their voice.

X's location "transparency" feature showing many MAGA accounts are based internationally reveals what we already knew: The world is using American social media and American politics as a slot machine and social media companies are directly incentivizing this:

this is a very important part of her legacy, her support for Palestine. one of the things i will always remember is that one of Dr. Refaat Alareer’s last liked posts on Twitter before it turned into x and removed like history is a photo of Alice.
The official obits are rolling in. I hear the NYT mentions nothing about Alice Palestine support ofc. When she won her MacArthur, Alice got death threats from Zionists. They ruined her joy on a HUGE accomplishment. She told me the MacArthur ppl took down her personal statement & when she complained
