Will the Cargo Bike Replace the Rickshaw in Polluted and Congested Megacities?
The urban mobility of tomorrow—especially in older, denser cities—may rely more on human muscle than machine horsepower.

Even with strong global headwinds, there is encouraging progress — and we are just getting started.

YEs definitely. $35.00 CAD each.

After reading your post, I tried putting one on the back of my bike. Looks good! Casts a bright arc around the back of the bike that would do wonders for visibility. Looks particularly good against the white snow.

Vancouver city councillor @lucymaloney.bsky.social has introduced a new Council motion that would get rid of right turns on red lights in the city. Via @dailyhivevancouver.bsky.social

Unquestionably the smart, evidence-based move for EVERYONE’s safety, but especially for people walking & on bikes.

Never forget, if you design a city for cars, it fails for everyone, including drivers.

If you design a multi-modal city that makes walking, biking & public transit attractive options, it works better for everyone, including drivers.

INCLUDING DRIVERS.

The “war on cars” has always been a lie.

Never forget, car dependency isn’t freedom.

Some might ask “what’s more free than cars?”

Choices.

Choices are more free than car dependency.

It’s not a hard concept.

I’m not pitting cars against any other single mode of transport.

I’m rejecting design that creates dependency on just one mode.

The thing about speed cameras is they *do* result in initial revenue, that's true, but they also are effective at speeding! The revenue element doesn't negate the safety benefits, and as this study shows, revenue declines over time.

Once upon a time margarine was made from healthy, natural fats. But now it's made from ultra processed seed oils. Think canola, safflower etc. #nutrition #food
The Newfoundland Butter Company made margarine from whale, seal and fish oil. That margarine was then smuggled into Canada where it was sold for half the price of butter.
The company was established by Sir John Crosbie, the Minister of Fisheries in Newfoundland.

By the time Newfoundland joined Canada, margarine was legal for sale in Canada...sort of. Provinces put in rules related to the colour. It could not be sold yellow and had to be sold white. To get around this, manufacturers sold yellow dye packs with the margarine.

Due to pressure from the diary industry and farmers, the Canadian government instituted a ban on margarine in 1886 through an Act of Parliament.
For the next half century, with a couple breaks, margarine was a no-go product in The Great White North.
