🦇 Bats do not make nests, but choose various places throughout the year to roost. Bats roost in houses, both new and old but some species prefer hollow trees, or caves. In buildings they often shelter behind hanging tiles and boarding or in roof spaces.

🚧 Powderhall / St Mark’s Path – Update
Good news: the path will reopen from Fri 19 Dec to Sun 4 Jan while construction pauses, giving everyone on Quiet Route 20 a safer, more direct link over the festive period.
Council still reviewing options for a better route during future closures.

Three reasons to avoid cutting back dead stems and seed heads this winter:
🐞 Hollow stems provide homes for hibernating insects, such as lacewings and ladybirds
🌻 Birds feed on seed heads like teasels, sunflowers and thistles

The trees in St Andrew’s Sq and PSG are some of the most valuable in Edinburgh.
The Spurtle, me and many others have been pushing @edinburghcouncil.bsky.social to follow their own policies and properly protect them for over a decade.
