Ed Brubaker and @seanphillips.bsky.social always hit the spot, and Where the Body Was tours a suburban neighbourhood in 1984 with everyone up to something.

It's been a long time in coming, but we finally review a stone cold classic in Charles Burns' Black Hole. It remains a 5 star experience.

I've had students of that age at various times when I worked for the OU.

So, so many, but today, I'm going with an absolute master of the cover version,* David Bowie. (Other Bowie covers are worth listening to, but I'd single out his version of 'White Light/White Heat', particularly the BBC version.)

*If we forget Tin Machine's version of 'Working Class Hero'.

Yes, that is the basis for my argument. (Though it's Outis.)

Shade the Changing Man by Peter Milligan and Chris Bachalo was an era-defining series, yet still slips under the radar. Embrace the madness with the first Omnibus.

We like both Godzilla: Here There Be Dragons graphic novels by @franktieri.bsky.social & Inaki Miranda. The first has the fantastic story told by Elizabethan pirate Henry Hull on the verge of execution. @idwpublishing.com

The Prisoner of the Buddha is the first collaboration between André Franquin and background artist Jidéhem, and the result is even better Spirou and Fantasio. Script by Greg as the pair take a turn into Tintin style adventuring. @cinebook.bsky.social

Jonathan Schnapp's The Order of the Night Jay deals with a big, but shy kid at summer camp discovering a spooky secret. The River Rises is the 2nd part. It's charming and warm-hearted.

The Unstoppable Doom Patrol by @dennisculver.bsky.social & @theburnham.bsky.social successfully integrates all versions of the team in inventive plots very nicely drawn. A shame there's only the one volume.

He did a Vera episode in his eighties where he really leans into his native South Shields accent, which he didn't always get to do.

"Woodvine". Thanks autocorrupt.
tonykeen58.bsky.social
My favourite obscure Woodbine role is another one where he's opposite David Threlfall, as the early Christian philosopher Lactantius, with Threlfall as a rather unlikely Constantine.
tonykeen58.bsky.social
He's one of those actors whose ubiquity on television makes you surprised he didn't do more Who than the one story.

I was watching him in Young Winston only a couple of days ago.

Haro Aso's twisted Alice in Borderland now has two Netflix seasons, so we review the 9 volumes on which that's based. Great concept, interesting ideas and fine art. It sometimes loses its way in the complexity of games, but overall it's very good. @viz.com
