very specific to DC complaint here but when trump is threatening to take over the city's historically significant public golf courses so he can privatize them and make them another getaway for the 1% i don't think going "well maybe they shouldnt be golf courses to begin with" is helpful or realistic

12YO girl signed up to do “stand up comedy” at the talent show. 13YO boy decided to heckle her. Teacher started to tell the boy to leave her alone, but the 12YO comedian said “no, no, let him go, this is the closest he’s ever going to get to having a conversation with a girl.”
What's an insult you'll never forget?

@eliasisquith.blog The other day you posted something about re-familiarizing ourselves with the basics of organizing and activism. Is there a reading list you recommend?

America vs. the World
President Trump wants to return to the 19th century’s international order. He will leave America less prosperous—and the whole world less secure.

I always thought MLK’s ‘Mountaintop’ speech was his best, which was given the day before he was killed. It is especially relevant given what is happening now in MN and elsewhere. He was getting many serious threats, which he references in his line “I may not get there with you.”

Russian authorities have detained an Indigenous climate advocate, accusing her of participating in a terrorist organization in what international observers are calling “retribution” for her United Nations advocacy on behalf of Indigenous peoples.

From our colleagues at @grist.org:
She fought forIndigenous voices at the UN. Now she’s in a Russian jail cell.
Observers say Daria Egereva’s case highlights the risks Native advocates face when they challenge the powerful.

It is easy to become overcome with shame when I see Americans terrorizing innocent people, threatening allies abroad and protecting pedophiles at home. The real heroism I have seen from ordinary citizens trying to protect their neighbors reminds me that there are more good people here than bad!

If you live in the Cities, an easy way to help immigrant families in hiding is: laundry! Laundromats are ICE magnets, so people without washers need help.

The People’s Laundry will drop off laundry to your door to wash and dry and pick up a few days later:
