the Jimmy Pesto voice actor actually being a Jimmy Pesto in real life is remarkable

Been sitting with this, too, and just can't quite square it. Might be true for the 18- or 20-year-old, to some extent, but the 12-year-old exhibiting the same signs? They can't process the world beyond their own burgeoning brain
In the same way that millennials got yelled at for avocado toast and ruining industries like it was there fault they weren't given the resources to participate in them, we're going to see people yelling at students to reacting to a world where the oligarchy is flat out saying there'll be no future.

Can the Blue Jays please check in on Jose De Leon?

Wrote about all ways "more modestly priced arms" could help the Giants, and how it could be harder than it sounds to sign such a pitcher. Before the day was done, one option was already off the board.

If you're looking for something beautiful I can't recommend this enough

"wildly disorienting" centers my daily experience first. What's really harrowing is thinking down the line--which educators do by habit and by trade--and wondering what the end result is. We want good, creative lives for kids and for them to have curiosity and agency. Blind faith isn't a plan
Been thinking about this all day. It's not 100% my experience, but very close to it. Especially the parts about not trying to dunk on students but wanting to communicate how dire it feels, and too often. The constant simplifying, the re-explaining directions. It's wildly disorienting
This is not a "students today" post--it's more "this is a new form of dysfunction" that doesn't look exactly like it's been in previous decades. It's more than just "first-year chaos." It's an across-the-board inability to process instructions, engage with longer texts, and *connect* with others.

I thought I was having fun with my intro today by talking about the four minute mile but then Patrick went and talked about Joel Waldfogel on his way to talk about the Rockies

Would love to know the rate of shows involving a wealthy person as a weight-bearing plot point, passive or not (I hate it)

🧵 We are, in fact, doing the thing again for @onesimplewish.bsky.social. In 2024, the kind people of this community put the money cannon on blast to help grant $75K in wishes for children in foster care. Toys, tech, a suit for job interviews. Here we go again! 👇

I love a good question, please read my stuff and ask me more questions in the comments, this is all one big conversation to me
in which @timjacksonsays.bsky.social updates a piece he did heading into October on whether players actually throw harder in the playoffs, thanks to a question asked in the comments:
