This is incredibly well-written… and also maximally terrifying. We have a confused adolescent wielding the power of the “Secretary of War.” What is most sobering is the complete lack of understanding of America’s history and *why* the institutions are the way they are. /1

Well. I guess we know why Ford wants to get rid of speed cameras. Wow. Whoever this asshat is, they need to be fired, ASAP.

BREAKING🚨 Journalist Mario Guevara has officially been deported Friday from the United States back to his native El Salvador. This is a shameful erosion of press freedom in the U.S. — the first time that CPJ has documented this type of retaliation related to reporting.

This seems to be where we are.

Pro tip: real bad guys don’t know they’re bad guys. This isn’t a cartoon. It’s up to everyone else to say, “You know, that’s not gonna be okay with the rest of us.”

…oh yeah… and then they need to DO something.
If the President of the United States can assemble all of his commanding officers and describe his plans for prosecuting a military conflict against US cities without drawing even an ATTEMPT to impeach him under the Constitution’s explicit definition of treason, the legislature are all oathbreakers.

If George Washington himself had done this as President, he would have been impeached, removed, prosecuted, and imprisoned. This was one of the greatest fears of the Framers.

Over 40% of Americans approve of a President threatening civil war over his fantasy version of his opponents. As a journalist I still feel some obligation to try to understand. As a human I want to stay as far away as possible, and don't know if I'll ever bring my family across the border again.

So… Pete Hegseth is just channeling full War Criminal now, yeah? Great. Fucking great. Might be high time for the senior military leadership to say, “Fuck no.”

So Disney’s putting Kimmel back on the air. For how long? Pretending this was just a “pause” is not okay. If you want to be taken seriously (and stop the bleeding) you might want to do the brave, honest thing and admit the mistake you made. And then maybe start defending democracy like a grown up.

Disney has managed to undermine the most important thing it has: trust. It’s like everyone woke up and realized that Cruella De Vil is actually in charge and the whole business is about making her rich enough to make coats out of every Dalmatian in the nation. Breaking trust this badly is deadly.

100% this. People have been warning about these dangerous idiots for years. Have y’all got the message yet? No real journalist would ever sign such a thing. The whole point is to hold authority to account, not kowtow to their demands and feed their unhealthy need for validation.
Anyone who signs this pledge is not a journalist.

Not really an overstatement to say that the test of a free society is whether or not comedians can make fun of the country's leader on TV without repurcussions.

I have loved Star Wars since I first saw it in a theatre in 1977. But the company clearly didn’t absorb the message of the movies or shows it purchased. I won’t be subscribing as long as Disney remains a boot polisher for fascists. Pulling the plug now.
I don’t expect it will change the outcome but I’m cancelling my Disney plus subscription just the same.

And here we are. Silencing satirists, now. And the bulk of the mainstream commentators predictably fail to underline how serious this is. Who knew we’d go full fascist quite so quickly? /1

“Over the past 20 years, Paris has undergone a major physical transformation, trading automotive arteries for bike lanes, adding green spaces and eliminating 50,000 parking spaces.

Part of the payoff has been invisible — in the air itself.”

Paris said au revoir to cars. Air pollution maps reveal a dramatic change.
Air pollution fell substantially as the city restricted car traffic and made way for parks and bike lanes.
