NEW: AI “recipe slop” is overrunning search and social. Food creators say Google’s AI Overviews and glossy fake food pics are drowning out real, tested recipes — collapsing traffic and setting home cooks up for disaster, especially this Thanksgiving.

Avelo is using one of its ICE planes (painted white so it won’t hurt the brand) to fly pro-athlete women.

As I reported in @prospect.org, this plane had an emergency landing Nov 13. Migrants regularly soil themselves in their seats bc ICE guards won’t let them get up.

It's a wrap! I am laughing & tearing up. $98K over a weekend directly to kids & young adults in ways of immeasurable, long-term impact. Thank you, sincerely, to those who donated, shared, made it a dang game, pooled resources or just plain made us smile 💙

I want to tear my hair out a little every time this guy writes in my local paper!! He's getting basic principles of finance all wrong. 🤦🤦

Probably the worst Thanksgiving incident was when me or one of my siblings was rough housing with cousin Erich, who had recently been in a terrible motorcycle accident and wasn't 100%, and Erich fell over... smashing his sister's boyfriend's priceless acoustic guitar from Israel.
yes, hello, I would like to place an order for everyone’s funniest stories of holiday food-related family grudges / drama / chaotic incidents / lore

I feel like we need this

This reminds me -- I have a wild idea for a @beyondthebig5.bsky.social project that might involve an all ages restaurant like Chili's!
I feel God in this Chili’s tonight

I DO generally dress nicely for flights (because I personally do not like to be in public in my house clothes) and I still want to tell this guy to bite me
Duffy: "Trump talks about the golden age of transportation. But the golden age in transportation truly begins with you ... People dress up like they're going to bed when they fly ... so we want to push people as we come into a really busy travel season: Help people out, be in a good mood, dress up"

I majored in theatre and planned to work as a freelance stage manager in LA. Then the Great Recession hit right after I graduated. I started doing arts admin as my day job with stage management on the side... And now I'm an accountant!

(in between all this I ran a sports league)
What’s the lore behind choosing your career path ?

I loved the new Frankenstein! It had hot mess moments for sure, but I thoroughly enjoyed myself in the theater.

Excellent episode! I recommend listening to Overinvested's prior episode on Frankenstein before the movie, and coming to this one after.
Out now on Overinvested: Our review of Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein!

As someone who usually loves GDT's work, I found this one unexpectedly disappointing. Gorgeous props and costumes, paired with thin characterization and a narrative that simplifies the darkness of the novel.
Ep. 328: Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein — OVERINVESTED
Sticking closer to Mary Shelley's novel than most other adaptations, Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein is the culmination of a lifelong dream. But does this movie measure up to GDT's past hits? Steffa...

Ewwwww.

Also I read this in my head in the voice of an ASMR artist I found this week who I'm pretty sure uses AI chatbots to generate scripts.

Ok BlueSky: what are your favorite history books in terms of sheer page-turning, narrative propulsion? Thinking along the line of Killers of the Flower Moon, etc. Nonfiction chronicles that read like novels or movies.

My latest on how the 2026 Seattle budget (final Council vote on Friday) is not setting Katie Wilson up for success, between its accounting tricks, one-time funding, and CM provisos. Also some details about the federal Continuum of Care changes, which I know many of you have been concerned about.

Part of what I do at my local cold weather shelter is guest registration, and I ask people about their employment status. We always have guests with full time jobs! I'm glad this phenomenon is getting more attention, especially as the feds look to change HUD funding priorities.
It's hard to express what it meant to watch Maurice, Natalia, Celeste, and Rhea tell their stories—in their own voices—this morning.

The segment revealed a brutal reality: homelessness at this scale isn't about personal failure. It's the result of policy choices and systems built to exploit people.

It's slime mold and jelly fungus time! This might be witch's butter or Dacrymyces chrysospermus. It's from a park down the street that I took my dog to today. 🌱

I have to raise my eyebrows a bit at folks in my town who voted against the levy who are now pushing back against the idea of (necessary!!) budget cuts. There aren't any secret pools of money to draw from and creating more volunteer opportunities in town won't be a huge cost saver.
Damnit did I read the room wrong... I thought the levy was gonna pass 60/40, not fail 60/40.

Oof, it's a rough week for social services orgs in my area! A week or two ago the food bank announced that their partnership with another church to build a new, bigger facility had fallen apart. Now the hygiene center is closing.

It's raining buckets today and I'm thinking of all the forest fungi that are getting soaked and slimey, like this parasol (Chlorophyllum, dunno the species) I saw earlier in the week. 🌱

I'm happy to announce I've found another Mexican food eatery to recommend in Seattle! This brings my list up to...... 4 places. 😅

A huge patch of Zeller's boletes popped up in the woods near my house yesterday, and by this afternoon they were all gone! I'm glad I took pictures. 🌱
