Also we have never truly taught media literacy in this country and so the skill of evaluating "is this website legit" is something either you have some aptitude for or you're a big enough nerd to seek info on this topic or you... probably don't learn much of it

This is correct, and for people under a certain age threshold, they have never KNOWN the Internet we did, where finding good results fairly quickly was even possible. I get why they think this is the solution, even though it obviously is not
