Star Trek is always so relatable. I’m human and I also don’t have any money…

Since the star collection and post-star collection cutscenes in Super Mario Galaxy 2 have an average length of 30 seconds and a full playthrough collects 240 stars, the player spends at least 2 hours per playthrough simply watching Mario collect stars.

we have reached the stage of toddler parenthood where the Shumling is learning lots of words but his skill in pronunciation has not yet matched his enthusiasm

source: me, this morning, suddenly realizing the unintelligible phrase he’s been repeating since last night actually meant “grizzly bear”

it me, the longtime fan of SNES classic ActRaiser, who just realized after 25 years that the game's third area, Kasandora, is likely an unlocalized variant of Cassandra

Rebecca was one of the founders of Interplay and programmed & designed for some of the most influential games of my youth, notably Bard's Tale I & III and Wasteland. She will be missed.
My trailblazing game industry bad-ass friend Rebecca Heineman has passed away.

Fuck cancer.

Friends, let’s not forget her: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rebecca...

since we're talking GOTYs, a quick top five from me:

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 (GOTY)
Hades II
The Séance of Blake Manor
Mario Kart World
Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles

honorable mention (bc I didn't play most of it but also bc its reliance on RNG is annoying): Blue Prince

i played news tower and because it's me i had an existential crisis about it
Finally out of early access, News Tower puts you in control of a Depression-era newspaper and makes you immediately question your ethics. It's surprisingly accurate, writes former actual newspaper employee @midimyers.com. www.avclub.com/news-tower-g...

Every time I go through a drive thru now with the Shumling in the car, no matter what I’m picking up, I can expect to hear a little voice behind me as I pull away…

“…fwies?”

and if I have just acquired fries, I grab one from the bag and reach into the back seat until I feel a little hand snatch it

I’ve never watched all of the ‘60s sci-fi show The Prisoner, but I’m aware of its influence — enough so that I had a weird dream last night that left me thinking about the show.

I found this quote from Patrick McGoohan on Wikipedia, and boy, if that doesn’t ring eerily true in The Age of AI Slop:

Huge congrats to the @spookydoorway.bsky.social team for a gorgeous, atmospheric experience (and for managing all those narrative threads — an achievement of Milesian magic in itself!). And shoutout to all the wonderful VO performances, too. I’ll be hearing Irish brogue in my head for days.

We (mostly @sundyst.bsky.social) wrapped up The Séance of Blake Manor tonight. Absolutely loved it. Much more a narrative experience than a puzzle game, but what a narrative, watching all the threads come together in such a satisfying way. And learned a ton about Irish history and mythology to boot.

finally took the Shumling to UVU’s beautiful new soccer stadium (brought to you in very very very small part by yours truly)

the Shumling made it to halftime thanks to copious amounts of popcorn, Sour Patch Kids, and patient parenting

next year: a whole 90 minutes, maybe?

The whole concept of insurance is so stupid. It's like if a bank just refused to give you back the money you deposited because they decided you shouldn't need it

(yes I am aware that banks actually do have the power to withhold customers' funds in certain circumstances but that's not the point)
