It was a quick way to give the players plot threads and a bit of background, and then see which way they went. Needless to say, the “lady outlaw” was one of the pre gen characters on the run from a bad mistake in Reno.

I had one npc who was drunk and trying to bluff badly, and a professional gambler waiting until it was his deal to cheat and take the pot. It all came down to the final roll!
