i really wish sci fi would move away from hive mind bad guys, especially when they're just like "must consume

Someone earlier today said that UBI would be required to make art as a career viable and it sure would help, but do you know what else would? a living wage for this

I want writing to be my full time gig, I have since I was in high school. I would love to make game design my life's work as well. But the way that everything currently is set up, I can not, not for lack of trying, but because I don't know anyone who does or can without getting hired on somewhere.

I am so very lucky that I have the money from my mother's life insurance that I've been saving for over a year now that I am currently living off of, but like, I think every day about what would happen if I didn't any more, or if it ran out. What would I do? I honestly don't know.

I struggle to do anything that isnt about making money and try to monetize my hobbies because I've got to make ends meet somehow right? I have ideas that I would love to post for free

Thank you so much for this. For these studios to do it, customers do have to carry their share of this and buy the stuff we make. I know everyone talks a big game on "play something else" but do we buy something else? Do we have stores stocking anything else?

Right on. It's not about getting picked, it's having enough studios, making enough books AND paying enough that there's enough good work to go around.

(I've only done 2 books with freelancers this year. I'd like to do more. Budgets. And workload.)

How would they afford to do this, however? Increase the price of books, of course. In writing this, and previous skeets, I assumed WotC was charging $50 for their books. They were, now it's $60. If people will pay that for 5.5E, why can't the rest of the industry raise their prices as well?

The problem seems to be the freelance model itself. Rather than having employees who you sign to your publishing house and works for you for an amount of time, even if it's just for the length and breadth of the contract, that would be better for the creators. More expensive for the companies though

"They voted for this" where "they" includes a number of Black people who've been gerrymandered out of voting power is just racism dressed up in smugness at one's own fortunate place of residence.

at first glance, these two signs appear to be giving opposing advice.

one sign says "leave your MAGA husband" and the other says "Fuck the Patriarch" ... now yes, I am SURE the original sign said Fuck the Patriarchy and it was just cut off by whoever took this photo, but you have to admit this is funny.
