Tonight’s TNG sees us off to Starfleet Academy in… The First Duty

As my youth gets mined over and over, decades on, I do sit and wonder what... let's say, an 8 year old... thinks when they see stuff like this coming? Presumably it's just another movie. It can't possibly have the same cachet that it does for 50yo folk? Where are the new ideas?

Halfway through Lincoln Lawyer S4 and two eps have had genuine, 'I must watch the next one...' endings, which are rare for me - even with shows I like. And one ep had a heart-in-mouth, punch-the-air ending. People who are watching might know what I'm saying?!? Just great stuff.

Now onto some Lincoln Lawyer. So good.

Excellent episode with really interesting ideas, and I learned a lot, especially from @davidkitchen.bsky.social thanks to his experience. Very well done and very much enjoyed!

'Disaster' proves Trek can put kids front and centre without f-ing it up. I think most vitally of all, the episode respects the danger. The kids are frightened, the stakes are real, and Picard has to learn patience and not just lean on his authority. Not a classic, but enjoyable.

Thought for the day: early Red Dwarf is essentially early Last of the Summer Wine in space. A talky sitcom about loneliness, featuring the lovelorn vulgar scruff with poor personal hygiene, the one with pretensions of being officer material, and the inscrutable weird one.

Imagine being an actor co-writing an episode of a TV show and not only that, but writing yourself a role in the episode as the future incarnation of a loved character from that series to boot. Talk about unearned.

My current audiobook. Almost a decade ago there were three books compiled of X-Files short stories. Totally passed me by, but I'm fixing that now. 7 stories in (out of 15), I'm just in love with it and missing the X-Files on TV very much. Every author's nailed the brief so far.
