Ford Prefect had checked his Sub-Etha Sens-O-Matic at less and less frequent intervals, and had exhibited less and less annoyance at its continued silence. He was beginning to think he liked it here.

“I went and visited the set last year, and out of all the movies that I’ve worked on in my entire life — even Barbie — it was [the biggest]. It was massive. I think we took over two or three sound stages. This was on eight back lots… [Characters] walking around that are eight-feet tall.”
Mattel Studios Boss Robbie Brenner Talks ‘Masters of the Universe,’ ‘Polly Pocket’ and ‘Magic 8 Ball’ at MIPCOM: “‘Barbie’ Blew the Doors Open for Us”
"There's enthusiasm for taking such a bold swing with 'Barbie' and being rewarded for it," she told THR about the company’s slate at MIPCOM Cannes.

OTD 2070, 4.30am: A fleet of Cyberman space ships lands on the Moon
Doctor Who and the Cybermen was the first book I ever bought, aged 5, and I still love it.
5 great reasons to read it, if you’re coming to it much later (or, today, 45 years early):
loveandliberty.blogspot.co.uk/2016/11/five...
Doctor Who and the Cybermen by Gerry Davis, cover by Chris Achilleos – the Doctor (Patrick Troughton) and a Cyberman (cyborg revenant with handled helmet) surrounded by thrilling fizzing energy, the Moon behind them Audiobook of Doctor Who and the Cybermen by Gerry Davis, read by Anneke Wills with Cybermen voices by Nick Briggs, cover by Chris Achilleos – the Doctor and a Cyberman surrounded by thrilling fizzing energy, the Moon behind them From the Prologue to Doctor Who and the Cybermen on my phone, a Space Book of the Year 2025:
“Their small fleet of Cyberman space ships landed on the Moon at exactly 4.30 a.m. on October 15th in the year 2070. Nobody at the nearby lunar base or those manning sky-probes at watching stations on the blue planet saw them—so effective were the Cyberman screening devices.
“The huge silver monsters that had once been men had achieved their first objective…”

This was the first New Adventure I read. Bernice has been one of my favourite companions ever since!

When Disney secured the Indiana Jones Adventure ride license from Lucasfilm, they didn’t have permission to use Harrison Ford’s likeness for the poster art. Drew Struzan called Harrison Ford and directly asked him. Ford permitted Struzan because he inherently trusted him.
Page 52 of “Poster Art of the Disney Parks.”

Two poster concepts for the Indiana Jones Adventure ride.

"When Disney licensed Lucasfilm for the Indiana Jones ride, it did not secure the rights to Harrison Ford's likeness. So, when it came to the poster, my take on it was, Gee, if I painted Indiana Jones and don't put Harrison's likeness on it, I'll look like a fool; like I couldn't do it. So I got his phone number and called him up to ask for his permission. He had just the gentlest Indy voice you ever heard. I told him the situation and his response was,
'If you're painting it then you go right ahead.’”

RIP the legendary Drew Struzan (1947-2025) 😩

Even though we were expecting the news any day now, it makes me very sad. What an artist.

The BBC's magic blanket licence would have allowed them to do this (for broadcast in the UK only presumably)

"Marvin," he said, "just get this elevator to go up will you? We've got to get to Zarniwoop." "Why?" asked Marvin dolefully. "I don't know," said Zaphod, "but when I find him, he'd better have a very good reason for me wanting to see him."

I did the gnome in 2017. It’s the most effort I ever put into a costume, and I still get mileage out of it.
Dressed as a gnome smoking my pipe and standing on a staircase made of railroad ties Dressed as a gnome smoking my pipe and standing on a foggy hillside Dressed as a gnome using a natural wood cane to walk down a hill A forced perspective shot making me look very tiny
