Language tests for migrants under the guise of "social cohesion" or "assimilation" or "playing their part" is just a racist fucking grift. Before Big LLMs, the language test industry was my most loathed. Now it is my equal-most loathed.

This is just...there's no reason for this, simply more barriers as Labour leans further into migration restrictions. And, if you've read a Home Office decision letter, you know that they uh are not the most well-written documents—often containing grammatical or spelling errors in English.

THE DEMO OF LEGEND OF KHIIMORI IS NOW OUT!

Unfortunately Australian internet being what it is, I will get to play it in roughly a million years, but I cannot wait!

We're making a game where you play a courier rider in 13th century Mongolia

No combat, just you, the horse(s) you've tamed, bred and trained and the vast wilderness.

Would you play this?

in order to align llms with human values, we use llms to base our understanding of human values
reads: Given the financial and logistical challenges linked to human annotation, we choose to employ the feedback generated by the GPT-3.5-turbo API as a substitute for human feedback.

(I mean understanding all assignments require inference, but you know what I mean.)
termy.bsky.social
Hahahah I saw an assignment where the task instructions were deliberately written colloquially and required INFERENCE. The student had clearly generated the essay by LLM which had **completely** misrepresented the assessment requirements. THE POSSIBILITIES!
altibel.bsky.social
LOL "It's obviously a fantastic technology that has amazing possibilities." Do these ppl understand what LLMs and co actually do?

Hundred percent was like stepping through the looking glass!!

Also yeah, definitely liberating.

(I tried to get a photo of her sleeping because she's adorable but I'm too loud and clumsy)

I am WFH and feeling shit today, but I DO get to give Zoe sleep treats - I wait for her to fall sleep then sneak out and lean a treat against her nose and sneak off. I hope the when she wakes up, she assumes treats appear when she naps because the universe is just a nice place to her.

so much of sexology can be boiled down to “wow, you’ve literally never spoken to a woman in your life.”

switched that off at work and SURPRISE! my newsfeed was FULL of T&A. Definitely not complaining, I just didn't realise virtually 50% of people I follow were horny-on-main, and I REALLY misread the culture here 😂)
termy.bsky.social
It was unintentionally more horny-sounding than intended, and I keep that shit REPRESSED.

(In fact I'd wondered why I didn't see so much adult content on Bsky, and assumed that was just the culture here, BUT I did notice yesterday that I had "hide adult content" set probably by default, so I

Seen this morning, great advice. Unless you have food or help on offer just leave them alone.
They are doing the best they can.
A sign I seen this morning saying
See a tent?
Just fucking leave it… Cheers
Living without washing or toilet facilities is no joke.
Unless you can help, just mind your business

We can all learn from the way Portland protests. (I had to rewrite my comment because I realised it was, er, ambiguous.)

The 2025 revitalization showcase from @e-l-p.bsky.social looks like it will be a wonderful celebration of different revitalization projects from around the world. Not the best timing for an Australian audience, but tune in if you're elsewhere.

I try to learn one new thing each day. It COULD have been something like, I dunno, how plumbing or the economy works, but no I guess today it's that hats come in different sizes.
termy.bsky.social
Wow there's this whole world of wonder I'd never even once considered.
termy.bsky.social
As a very-much-non-hat-wearer, I had never, once, in my life, even considered that hats come in different sizes.

Motorcycle helmets, sure, that makes sense - people have different cheekbones. But I'd never thought about it with hats.

Any man who does not know his hat size is no gentleman.

I... hats come in different sizes?

Wait do HEADS come in different sizes? (I failed phrenology 101, soz).

Hahahah love it when it might be the medication that's supposed to fix me that's making me depressed. That or too much work I dunno

OK so obviously whoever Matt Stoller is DOESN'T mean "the passive voice" in the grammatical sense, because, well.... it isn't. But it also doesn't seem to be referring to any of the OTHER things people mean by "passive voice", so I'm at a loss to even understand what is referred to here.
