Laws are not self-executing. Is this an obvious Hatch Act violation? Of course. But without good men and women in government faithfully executing the laws, it doesn't matter.

When this is all over, assuming we still have a constitutional government, there needs to be an accounting.

my only add-on as a black person is these spaces honestly where never inherently safe. i think a lot of the fandom racism that 'feels' new is only more in your face due to brown and black fans especially becoming increasingly vocal but the toxicity in fandom spaces. cont.

some people in fandom culture are way too willing to overlook genuine displays of bigotry and it astounds me. frequently using thought-terminating cliches (e.g. 'it's not that deep', 'let people enjoy things') is textbook abuser and fascist techniques.

• this story has been in development for over two years and doesn't take into account season 2, so some characters (like John Bartholomew, Anne Bonny, or Benjamin Hornigold) may differ greatly from their TV series counterparts
• the fic's violence and darkness increase from chapter to chapter, and while a certain amount of humor/fluff is always present, it's extremely heavy; please check your tags and take care of your mental health!
