feel like it used to be basic fucking knowledge in literature classes that when you analyzed something you had to take into account where the author was from & the cultural biases and practices that the author would bring into their work bc of it. but say that for tv & suddenly you’re the bad guy.

the lack of genuine media literacy some grown adults have here leaves them being so unfathomably cruel.
and i don't mean that as a buzzword. incapacity to acknowledge how external context influences writing is the literal foundational skill for media literacy. it is step fucking one.
