The lesson of history is that tyrants cannot be appeased.

Appeasement only feeds their insatiable hunger for power.

Tyrants prey on people who feel unsafe and vulnerable.

But without mass submission, a tyrant is powerless.

Remember this.

The whole premise of Christianity is that Jesus DIED for other people’s sins. But his followers are crying and throwing up at the idea of 50 of their tax dollars going to hungry people.

Maybe the biggest part of Cheney’s legacy is that after running a nightmarish and highly illegal torture program and killing a million people in Iraq just so oil companies could get their hands on nationalized oil there was zero accountability.

The pundits, news outlets, elected officials who…

A big thank you to our poll workers and election judges for your commitment to democracy. Minnesota’s elections are safe, free, and fair because of you.

Everyone should pay careful attention to the Maine voter ID ballot measure (Prop 1). It is on track to lose -- thereby proving that the GOP claims that voter ID laws are overwhelmingly popular is a lie. Perhaps now the legacy media will stop repeating that nonsense.

ALSO JUST BECAUSE WE DID WELL THIS YEAR DOESN’T MEAN WE STAY HOME NEXT YEAR.

That one’s arguably even more important.

More people voted in New York City’s election this year than they have in 50 years.

That’s a win for democracy, and a testament to @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social's inspiring campaign.

Congratulations to the next mayor of the greatest city in the world. 🗽

The oligarchy came out in full force against Zohran Mamdani's fight for a more affordable NYC.

It didn't matter.

Let his victory in the face of Big Money serve as a reminder that people have the power.

The last month of the anti-Mamdani campaign was an absolutely shameful undertaking, an attempt to rip the city and Democratic coalition apart and I'm very happy to see it failed.

Really can't be exaggerated how poisonous it is that @mattyglesias.bsky.social has taken up the "climate vs material prosperity" framing. It's empirically false. It's straightforwardly right-wing. It's going to make it harder to pass good policies. It's going to set that whole debate back.

a thing that always sat poorly with me in 2008 is that the obama campaign’s response to islamophobia was a little too “actually he’s a devout christian” (lol) and not “fuck you everyone knows what you’re doing.” like the problem could have been solved if he wore a cross

Turnout in the NYC mayoral election: the highest since 1993.

Give people something to vote for (or against) and apathy falls away.

When we launched this campaign, we said we wanted to knock on one million doors across the five boroughs by the June primary.

Some people laughed. You got to work. We hit 1.6 million.

In the general, we said let's do it again. Another million.

We just passed three.

i really hate the notion that has taken hold that bush is not responsible for the shit bush did as president. yes, cheney was his advisor and wingman and his soul is soaked with the blood of iraqis and americans, but at the end of the day bush was the decider.
