Birds Books Climate. Fix your hearts or die
I just checked, and I have the top comment on this story
Wow — Senators Van Hollen, Smith, Murphy, Sanders, Warren, Markey, Merkley, Heinrich have created an official internal "Fight Club."

They're challenging Schumer & Gillibrand's leadership, arguing the party is using an old, corporate-friendly playbook insufficient to take on Trump or win elections.

Season 3 was top tier, and the others had moments, but you could tell the creators were middle grade writers at heart

Not calling anyone out, but there can’t be a serious econ or politics discussion without ecology

I sort of wish this was the case because everyone is basically content with doing what we’re doing, but with solar energy. In my mind, if you support trains over cars, density over sprawl, or social housing, you’re a degrowther (laudatory)
half the loudest voices are pushing degrowth, which is probably worse than solar capitalism for the climate

Men are reading Dungeon Crawler Carl, Cradle, and He Who Fights with Monsters
1. Lit publishers are not interested in going to the kinds of conventions and trade shows where male audiences gravitate. They are married to the idea that their competition is female authors/readers/etc. This is BS. Their competition is video games + franchise TV.

DSA Labor Day parties at Gracie would be so cool though
Mamdani won't say whether he plans to live in Gracie Mansion as mayor: "I don’t yet have an answer on where I’m going to be living, but I can tell you where I'm going to be working and that’s City Hall."

He has previously alluded to planning to move into Gracie if elected.

So Schumer never did endorse, huh. Nor Gillibrand. Just irredeemable pieces of shit, the entire NY senate delegation

Politics would benefit from more progressive white dude representation. The standard bearers are Lincoln Restler and Scott Weiner, not false chuds

Science writers need to be more aware of species vs subspecies (northern white rhino) and “back from extinction” vs “reintroduced after being extinct in the wild” (Spix’s macaw)

D has everything from Italian to Indonesian. It’s not fair
For the rest of your life, you can only eat food from one of these regions. Which do you choose?

Exactly 1 year ago I presented at an all-day meeting with the CEO of one of China’s largest solar/storage manufacturers about opening a plant in TX or GA, and lol

Moderates moderate for the sake of moderation
The problem centrists have is that their ideology is ~75% an affective one. If you created a firebrand, these people would hate that on principle. Anything that inspires a mass movement is "unserious" in their eyes. It's a cult of inaction for inaction's sake

This is why I go with splendor instead of abundance, because you can have an abundance of anything
if abundance is your word and you do not immediately tell this guy to go fuck himself, you have no right to complain when you are depicted as a right-wing ideological project
Glad to see abundance utterly stripped of any meaning and repurposed by the ghouls on the right. Also the Manhattan Institute is an evil entity and should be blacklisted.

In the vein of undermining car dealerships with direct sales, we should rewild huge tracts of ranch land and ethanol fields by eminent domain. Return the buffalo commons

If cellular agriculture can become scalable, seafood should be the easiest to sell. No one likes eating fishbones, and sushi and shellfish have easy shapes to replicate
August 19, 2025 at 2:06 PM
For sure. Harvesting scallops is like bulldozing an orchard for apples and then not replanting the trees
All things considered, seafood is the most environmentally damaging food type.

Schumer went to bat for the climate provisions of the IRA right after the DSA landslide of 2020. He was resistant before then. Primaries are the best way to make leadership do anything

My theory is that GRRM is wedded to having a 7 book series, but can’t wrap it up that succinctly. Add onto that being way past retirement age, being rich as hell, and the show ending panned, he’s stuck in a vortex of demotivation

It wouldn’t be Sanderson, but this is a fair question
I'm glad I went to WorldCon today because someone just got up to the mic and told George R.R. Martin to his face that he's going to die soon and started to ask whether Brandon Sanderson would finish his books and everyone started to boo.
