The thing about Trump putting his names on buildings all over D.C. is that any footage from the day his name gets taken down from those buildings will probably have to come with a warning—it may just be lethally enjoyable, like The Entertainment in Infinite Jest.

Nothing says more about the wrong turn we all took with social media than hearing two 5-ish-year-olds at the airport begin every sentence to each other by saying « POV ».

And also how he ended that run with the (deservedly) critically savaged North, then went right back to making The American President, which led to both The West Wing *and* Michael J. Fox’s return to TV with Spin City in an Emmy-winning role that came right out of his performance in that movie.
The thing about Reiner’s early run isn’t just how good it is but also how different it is: This is Spinal Tap, The Sure Thing, Stand By Me, The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally, Misery, A Few Good Men

He's also responsible for raising all the money that paid for bringing Hollingsworth v. Perry & even more importantly Bostic v. Schaefer, which created the circuit split that forced SCOTUS to take on Obergefell v. Hodges. The role he played in American marriage equality cannot be overstated.
The cultural impact of Rob Reiner cannot be understated. Legend isn't big enough a word. It goes to 11. You can't handle the truth. As you wish. I'll have what she's having. I'm your number one fan. You guys wanna see a dead body? The very idea of a bucket list. The West Wing.

All from his movies.

Rob Reiner made some great movies but he was also unafraid to speak the truth, and was one of the public voices who knew you don’t squander your platform, and only got louder about opposing evil fucks as he got older. Legend.

🧵 worth reading
I’m just going to tell the story. Back in 2000 I was volunteering for the Gore campaign when he came along with Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Alfre Woodard and Dule Hill to a GOTV event here in MN. He ended up sitting down across from me stuffing his envelopes.

And he was a writer on The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour when he was barely out of his teens.

Not many people have ever had this kind of success and combination of onscreen/offscreen TV and film credits.
Rob Reiner's first seven films: 1. Spinal Tap. 2. The Sure Thing. 3. Stand By Me. 4. THE PRINCESS BRIDE. 5. WHEN HARRY MET SALLY. 6. Misery 7. A Few Good Men. Good lord. Even Spielberg included 1941 in his first seven.

And that was after playing Michael Stivic. I hope this news isn't true. But...

It’s not a perfect clip, but someone put on YouTube the Mavericks’s first song (there’s about 30 seconds of noise/tuning at the top of the clip and it cuts off) from the 2014 CNE show that I saw, and just from « Tell Me Why » you can hear what a powerful live band this was.
