I think one could arguably point to the british clinging onto their former territories as the origin of the conflict in the middle east.
Granted it's uncertain if a unified state could have been created back then, but having the mindset of "We conquered this land from the occupiers" cemented…

I'm curious: When you play fetch with them, how dedicated are they to it? When we still had our grey he deigned to fetch some 2-3 times and would then drop the branch along the way and go do his own thing.

While it can help it still requires a minimum level of proficiency to use properly.
It becomes a major issue when lack thereof result in blatant nonsense landing in the papers. A cohesive text that wraps the nonsense is less trivial to finesse out than obviously broken English.
