This is hard, cause 16 year old Me in 2001 would say Linkin Park’s Hybrid Theory. 26 year old Me in 2011 would would cringe at that and say Wilco’s Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. 36 year old Me in 2021 doesn’t care all that much and would probably say IDK, Survivor by Destiny’s Child or something.

Least surprising, lowest hanging fruit pick for me, but listen: this is peak Green card design - it supercharges your mana and creates large creatures with good keywords. Such a fun Magic card. This would probably be my favorite 5-drop even if portrayed a totally different character.

You know, I pride myself on my MtG nonfiction essays (clunky, bloated, faux intellectual prose and all) because it's a deeply personal and creative outlet for me, but if I'm honest, I think this is probably my greatest contribution to the MtG fandom.

- The writing overhaul improves the game’s story sooooo much. The plot makes more sense and the characters have better characterization, which all adds weight and pathos to the narrative
- Giving chocobos a heartbreaking death cry was diabolical; makes you feel like a real asshole for killing them.

- Tactician mode is fantastic! My single complaint about the original game is that it’s too easy for all the busted builds that are available. Hard mode lets you run wild with minmaxing while still providing a challenge.
