Tosiasia on, että 2011 aloittaneen sinipunahallituksen finanssipolitiikka oli aivan poikkeuksellisen kiristävää. Juuri tällöin Suomen velkakehitys erkaantui muista Pohjoismaista. Tätä ongelmaa ei kertakaikkiaan olisi ollut ratkaistavissa sopeuttamisella. Kohtasimme shokin elinkeinorakenteeseen.

Jos Kataisen hallituksen nettosopeutuksen muuntaa vuoden 2024 hintatasoon, niin päätösperäinen sopeutus oli luokkaa 8 mrd. euroa. Orpon hallitus on sopeuttanut noin puolet siitä.

The last few hours have proven 2 terrible things. First, the US and Russian governments are so close that the US government takes large parts of Russian proposals and passes them off as their own, and second that some people are so desperate to exonerate Trump that they act like this a good thing.

What a shit show. Everyone could see this plan was written by the Kremlin. Adopted by Witkoff and Trump who demanded Ukraine accept it by this Thursday. After a firestorm of objections by Europe and Republican senators it appears Rubio wants to distance himself from it.

At its core, FARA is a transparency statute, to let the American public know when foreign actors engage in political activities or try to influence U.S. discourse. At the same time, there are legitimate debates about the best ways to feed the needy, how many should qualify and how much they should get. In the 1970s, 1 in 50 Americans received food stamps. Now, 1 in 8 do. On average, these households get $322 a month. Are 42 million Americans really in such danger of suffering malnutrition that the federal government should spend about $100 billion every year Certainly, many need the help. The American Enterprise Institute's Kevin Corinth estimates that 2.9 million individuals willbe pushed into poverty if SNAP benefits are not paid in November, including 1.1 million children, 1.3 million working-age adults and about 500,000 seniors. But no one should aspire for large segments of the population to depend on government handouts. The program could certainly be designed better to not discourage work. Ultimately, the best way to help over the long run is to grow the economy, which leads to job creation and rising wages.
