Sad to see that Bob Stern passed away. He brought a lot to the field of architecture by understanding what worked from the past and knowing how to bring that into the present. Also he didn't use a computer, which sounds fantastic right now

I’m so happy that it’s publication day for my monograph! As I’m on leave atm, there’s no book launch (yet…) but I’m celebrating with my little mascot who says it’s almost as good as their favourite Peekaboo Moon, which is towering praise from this fairly fierce book critic.

«Critical thinking is not the sole attribute of literature and philosophy departments. Instead, it is embedded in science, engineering and other hardcore technical disciplines, where logic and problem-solving are non-negotiable.»
No, critical thinking is not «problem-solving».
It's problematization
Who, pray tell, is worshipping the liberal arts? Where is the mythical university alluded to here where STEM and business courses are criticized and somehow disincentivized by those in power?

What else won't matter? Evidence from an author's handwriting, watermarks, paper, parchment, mold, folds, stains, seals, signatures, or other signs of usage. Guido Fawkes' signature after having been tortured will look the same as after he recovered; Emily's Dickinson's dashes will be em-dashes

I'm no Luddite - far from it - but the ways in which in this development has been spoken of seem blind to, or completely uninterested in, what cannot be machine read and searched for: the pounce, sweat marks, soot, or wax; the non-semantic yet semiotically rich substrate that OCR strips away.
