I can’t think too long about Hegseth’s influence over the men and women in uniform and what it says implicitly to the absolute worst among them and the most vulnerable. And I will never ever forgive the senators who abetted this abuse.

He is a human bomb aimed at the pillars upholding a small “l” liberal DoD designed through generations of practice to be deeply flawed but utterly devoted at its core to service of the republic. He’ll slink back to being a professional drunk and abuser of women, probably prop up war criminals.

In what way was it "mainstream" to celebrate Kirk's death? That simply did not happen.

Vance: "Political violence, it's just a statistical fact that it's a bigger problem on the left. If you had, god forbid, somebody on the left who was assassinated, I'm sure you could find one person who would maybe celebrate it, but the fact that it became mainstream to celebrate Charlie's death..."

This is an essential. "Democrats need to beat the Trumpists in elections that we ensure are free" is the best strategy for the next 2-4 years. But it is not a long-term strategy! The only possible long-term strategy is that someone else needs to defeat the Trumpists for control of the Repub Party.

The mechanism through which Trump is paying the troops is the most blatant large Antideficiency Act (ADA) violation in US history. It's also clearly willful. No one has been charged under the ADA before, but violations carry a two-year jail term. The statute of limitations is five years.

Can we ask them “what would Charlie Kirk, brave free speech enthusiast that he was, would have said about this?”

The thing is that the modern GOP (not to mention its basement-confined moron stepchild, the Mises Caucus libertarian “party”) is accurately depicted by this language and a critical mass of the party is absolutely fine with it.

It’s incredible that the VT State Senator wrapped up in this hasn’t resigned yet — every major GOP leader in the state has called for his resignation. Fixing democracy requires restoring shame to public life. And accountability. Lots of accountability. vtdigger.org/2025/10/14/v...

'“We have a lot of assets out there which look like they’re entering bubble territory,” JPMorgan’s Jamie Dimon said. “That doesn’t mean they don’t have 20 per cent to go. It’s just one more cause of concern.”'

The President is announcing more extrajudicial killings today.

A reminder that the administration has provided no limiting principles and these killings are completely untethered from the law (there was no "armed attack," there's no "armed conflict," and these aren't "unlawful combatants").

I mean the point is he can’t just dismiss it. He’s the VPOTUS and owes us a standard of conduct. We don’t have to assent to be governed by such a pig.

Remember how it seemed certain the bright young(er) lady was going to take her down in 2020? One of the bigger gut punches of the cycle when it didn’t happen. Could have changed a lot of things if it had though.

I mean I think that was pretty clearly just incessant ref working so that when they had power they could do it with no legitimate rationale and tell their supporters that they were just responding in kind. Same playbook as about everything GOP runs these days.

For those tempted to say Young Republicans have always been this way, they really have not. When I worked on campus and did bipartisan college events after, they were very much not like this.

That’s why groups like YCT and eventually TPUSA formed — because Young Republicans weren’t radical enough.
