Reminiscing about the time I got kicked out of an Alberta Birds group because someone posted a photo and asked for an id so I answered that it was Allan (good guy, that Allan) and the admins didn’t think that was very funny at all.

In 1941, the Third Reich forbid the use of Fraktur typefaces in many government documents because they possibly showed Jewish Influence.

Just another interesting coincidence.

Mexican agriculture- dealing with basically the same problems as Canadian agriculture.

(The article doesn’t really talk about it, but US agricultural subsidies are a big part of the problem for both of us.)

I’m kind of sad I’m missing the shitstorm this would have caused amongst agvocates over on the other site.

(To be fair- there are still a lot of studies that affirm glyphosate’s safety. And it’s definitely an important tool for us. But I’m completely willing to change with the information.)

Every day I wonder if the world feels awful because I have depression (I do) or because things are depressing (they are).

It’s probably both. The challenge is to figure out which is the leading cause on a particular day.

Just saw a photo of a friend - a devoutly Ukrainian Catholic veteran of the Soviet army- dressed in matching SpongeBob pyjamas with his sons.

In Chicago, a Nativity scene features a zip-tied baby Jesus and Roman centurions in "ICE" vests.

Near Boston, Mary, Joseph, and Jesus are absent from a Nativity scene, replaced with a sign reading "ICE was here."

It's all part of growing religious blowback to ICE. religionnews.com/2025/12/05/i...

(RNS) — 'We know that Jesus was born into a Roman imperial occupation, and pretty much immediately becomes a refugee in Egypt, has to flee and faces political violence,' the Rev. Michael Woolf said.

There are a lot of days that I think I’d rather be chasing cows down in Mexico.

But maybe chasing cows in snow and ice isn’t such a bad price to pay for never having to think about screwworms. *shudders*

I hope that I’m never the sort of person who watches a military commit crimes and then thinks to myself “gee, this just isn’t very dignified.”
The worst part about the boat strikes - regardless of who ordered what and besides the ultimate tragedy of lives lost - is they’re forever a stain on the professionalism and dignity of the United States military.

They’re an insult to every American who ever sacrificed to do the right thing.

People want to believe that our leaders (both the evil and the less-evil ones) are constantly playing some sort of three dimensional chess.

And I dunno man- I’m just not convinced.

I think they’ve all been watching too much tv.
