No need to delay: Not only did the Board of Elections clearly state that they are ready and capable of implementing ranked choice voting, but the voters already told us how they "assessed the need" by overwhelmingly passing it at the ballot box.
NEWS: Ward 7 Councilmember Wendell Felder is introducing emergency legislation that would delay ranked-choice voting, which is currently set to be rolled out in D.C. in 2026. His bill would mandate that Board of Elections conduct an assessment on what it would need to implement RCV.

Does anyone know if WMATA has committed to putting the MTA purple line on its map?
Major part of my transit wishlist: I'd love to see NYC embrace a regional map of 🚇 and 🚊 services.

NYC is part of a regional economy and community-- it would be a major win if commuters could visualize PATH, HBLR and Newark City subway alongside the NYC subway system.

Looking forward to level boarding platforms being a component of the next generation streetcar plan which we will never fund.
New bus platforms on H St NE along DC's busiest bus route ensures drivers can't block the bus stop and riders have vastly improved accessibility!

It’s amazing the excuses DOTs will invent to shut you up
"In addition, the department said it would not install a raised crosswalk because the roadway is classified as an “area connector, and such treatments are not authorized” pursuant to county code"

Sligo Ave at Grove St is an area connector BUT raised crosswalks are allowed on area connectors!

Baca is dead on. Bowser sees any pedestrianization as a special hazard. It’s not that hard!
Pete’s on-the-street interviews find that streateries on 18th Street NW, which the District paid for but is, nonetheless, about to dismantle, are overwhelmingly popular. Alex ruminates on the connection between streateries and street closures.
Adams Morgan’s streateries are overwhelmingly popular. Forthcoming requirements put them and others at risk of vanishing

I was thinking again about how medical lingo in English is typically rendered in Greco-Latin that the common people does not comprehend. Considering that every single person interacts with the medical system... why the gatekeeping terms?

With modern metro-like trains and better organizational integration we could have a DC-Baltimore metro. The MARC Penn line infrastructure is good enough already. No new track or stations needed.

Maryland needs to adopt this attitude of modernization to deliver better service.

A new Bronze line metro could use MARC Penn line infrastructure and deliver metro-level service between DC and Baltimore

MARC should be jumping to get in on this for the Penn line
The spec may be a behemoth at 1500 pages, but the RFP explicitly allows for alternate designs & standards (including aluminum!) to cast the widest possible net of rolling stock platforms. SEPTA is leaving no stone unturned

Baltimore miles ahead of DC on this
Baltimore just eliminated parking minimums, reduced lot line setbacks, and allowed single-stair buildings for buildings up to six stories

All without years of studies or prevarication. This is not just the path to rest belt revival, it is a model for cities nationwide

Interesting model for the Camden line which terminates at a light rail station already
Here's a public transit model a lot more cities need to know about.

It's the #Karlsruhe Stadtbahn. It runs tram-trains, in this metro region in #Germany of 310,000.

Outside town, they run as standard commuter trains. Inside town, they operate as trams (streetcars)—no need to change mode.

Early reporting was that the fees are high enough to discourage most restaurants from participating
Thursday, Nov. 6, the Committee on Transportation and the Environment will hold a public oversight roundtable on the District's Streatery Program. If you haven't heard, new guidelines take effect Nov. 30, when all *temporary* streatery permits are set to expire. (1/2)

And this is a global phenomenon
Everybody's talking about Dem strategy, so here's something to add to the mix.

I start with this premise: The best and most reliable indicator of whether someone will vote red or blue is the density of the place they live. More dense, more likely to be blue, & vice versa.

With even lots of BRT projects coming only every 15 minutes I think automated buses are under discussed
“The politics of transit construction are ‘all about minimizing disruption. That mentality leads to expensive choices.’”

The U.S. only has to look as far as Canada for an example of how to build transit, via @benschneider.bsky.social.
Why automated metros are the future
High-tech transit can be cost-effective transit. Just look at Canada.

💯 I think a uniquely American problem that so much policy is made by people who have never lived in an apartment or a walkable neighborhood and can’t really comprehend one.
Soemthing that is always notable to me about Americans is that they struggle to find the right language to discuss transit or cities at all. You often hear them say things like “build bus lines” or call things light rail when they definitely are not.
A line that stuck out to me (and I think nobody else) in yesterday's NJGov debate: Ciattarelli (GOP nominee) describing the turnpike as a "mass transit system."
