Tonight's SWANS concert was a noise ritual. So loud, so divine. One of best concerts I ever attended. My ears are ringing.

New paper from Rüdiger et al. who find that the [4Fe-4S] cluster redox potentials in [FeFe]-hydrogenase show only mild pH-dependance, arguing against cys protonation (via @jacs.acspublications.org). Interestingly, the cluster behave the same in holo- and "apo"-enzyme!

I don’t completely agree with this take—I think the film is a little more evocative of racist urban development—but the point is it’s a deep and very well-crafted fable and it’s not about a princess. Highly recommend.

Not anymore ancient than bacteria tho 😑
Some archaea—an ancient group of microorganisms—have an entirely novel genetic code, according to a new study in Science.

The findings expand our understanding of how alternative genetic codes evolve and hint at new molecular tools for biotechnology applications. https://scim.ag/4omApQ7
An archaeal genetic code with all TAG codons as pyrrolysine
Multiple genetic codes developed during the evolution of eukaryotes and bacteria, yet no alternative genetic code is known for archaea. We used proteomics to confirm our prediction that certain archae...

Meiner Erfahrung nach leidet das 🇩🇪 Wissenschaftssystem an:

1. Keine formelle Schulung Gutachtenschreiben

2. Maßstäbe schwer zu definieren

3. Prätention & Animosität

und dann kommt die @dfg.de idR mit nur 2 Gutachten um die Ecke - ich habe eine Hall of Shame of inadequate and incorrect reviews 🤡
