As much as I feel the singing is some sort of musical crime this looks a straight forward 1stA violation.
hard to argue that large laboratories, gigafactories or DCs aren't NSIP
Even the grid 2 is biodiversity!
The chancellors PR machine is well ahead of the substance.

Neither planning nor JR is in the control of HMT; the latter involves some minor tinkering and the new bit appears to largely involve a triumph of wishful thinking and crossed fingers that maybe the courts could act quicker.

Reeves to limit legal challenges to key infrastructure projects

Rachel Reeves has ordered courts to open hearings on judicial review processes which could threaten to block critical infrastructure projects within four months of an application being made.

Data centres already account for at least 21% of electricity usage in Ireland, and are largely fuelled by fossil fuels.

Now, a new data centre complex is posing a legal threat to the country's climate obligations and possibly undermining international & EU law.

Hmm. Details are v thin but..1,100ha could be PV or the overall project inc BNG

The balance with nature referenced in the headline has to improve to get permission. Although again there are no details on what net gain they are aiming for afaics

Being picky Dev needs more new 💨 rather than 🔆

Even with the french IC the constant demand level of DCs on what will be a v high wind grid makes that a herculean task.

DCs have been 88% of new demand in Ire since 2015. Without them Ire could have been on track (at least sectorally)
You can't have your cake and eat it 🥮

If the Gov wants to hit CP30* then the amounts secured at each of the next couple of auctions have to be v high indeed. VfM can't be the top priority

If VfM is now the priority then you have to be realistic & move to 2032+

(* assuming it was deliverable)

Says value for money is "top priority" for AR7 "we won't buy at any price", with an initial budget set with Treasury "in the coming weeks"
DCs have massively delayed greening of Ire grid. But imo even if you could get the green power the share of the grid that DCs have/will have distorts it to a degree thats unhelpful - even if DCs were req to have curtailment policies (they aren't) to take pressure off the grid in say 0.3-1% of hrs.

Great to speak at the @energy-uk.org.uk conference just now, about the tenuous relationship between many media headlines & reality

Here's a taster

If you're usually charged battery and active energy consumer yes*. But most aren't either (~98% non ToU)

* Even then if you are on eg IOF your comparison days could be drawing some power due to the discharge rates from the bess control
"He said he was told that panellists were meant to “agree entirely” with each other."

Does often feel that way at many organisations panels at all sorts of events.

The tiny hope of a bust up is the only thing that keeps me awake sometimes!

I think thats the 5th 500MW+ approved since the last general UK election (6 if you inc 480MW West Burton)

There are ~8 of 500MW+ either waiting for their DCO or closing in on submission.

Secondly, I would like to take this quote and make it the background of every official in DESNZ. Trying to be too clever-clever never works. Trying to exclude all edge cases makes bad policy.
Getting the nearby solar online and connection to the substation at the former coal plant easy enough. SMRs well I'll believe it when I see it.
greenhill is 1200ha if that was the criteria. Depends if its whole site or 550 actual PV.

Its a pet irritation but its remarkable how often press inc the BBC don't name projects in their articles. Vague illusions to a village or sometime a road which is no use to man nor beast
Using up all those freed coal connections...
That would be true of CCGTs in any case. They will act as a ceiling on the BESS
