We made ChatGPT pretty restrictive to make sure we were being careful with mental health issues. We realize this made it less useful/enjoyable to many users who had no mental health problems, but given the seriousness of the issue we wanted to get this right.

Now that we have been able to mitigate the serious mental health issues and have new tools, we are going to be able to safely relax the restrictions in most cases.

In a few weeks, we plan to put out a new version of ChatGPT that allows people to have a personality that behaves more like what people liked about 4o (we hope it will be better!). If you want your ChatGPT to respond in a very human-like way, or use a ton of emoji, or act like a friend, ChatGPT should do it (but only if you want it, not because we are usage-maxxing).

In December, as we roll out age-gating more fully and as part of our “treat adult users like adults” principle, we will allow even more, like erotica for verified adults.

almost all the big outlets are mixing in MAGA, Project 2025, Nerd Reich or NatCon sanewashing with legit content to some degree.
I prefer to follow accounts of individuals with those outlets that are still doing good work, where possible e.g. Eric Lipton at the NYT.

Confusion arises 1) on legitimate errors, usually in manual bulk labeling passes which catch good-faith usage of a toxic term.
2) when people don't understand labeling is subjective. e.g. I label Al Jazeera as Qatari disinfo - many people disagree.

All my code is open sourced, no restrictions.

Community labeling is deliberately designed to be subjective. I don't feel like that's been made clear enough, or Ozone used enough.
My service labels a ton of media websites and accounts, subjectively. Adding a factual label based on media website or account ownership would be factual, and simple.

Incidentally this ridiculous 'Left-Center' rating for Al Jazeera is why MBFC's bottom line ratings are of limited use. They don't reflect the intentional 60/40 mix of fact and disinformation that characterizes many authoritarian state outlets.

Trump announces another strike "just off the Coast of Venezuela" that killed 6 people

Under my Standing Authorities as Commander-in-Chief, this morning, the Secretary of War, ordered a lethal kinetic strike on a vessel affiliated with a Designated Terrorist Organization (DTO) conducting narcotrafficking in the USSOUTHCOM area of responsibility — just off the Coast of Venezuela.
