NYC native living in Oklahoma. I'm retired now from a career that included teaching high school, staying home to raise my infant daughter (that was work, I can assure you), and managing internal communications for some big U.S. companies.

Do you remember when the White House had good taste?

Back when the art had meaning, the rooms had soul, and the President had both.

My expert political opinion is that killing the job market, raising grocery prices, kicking people off their health care, stealing taxpayer money, and trying to starve 40 million Americans is pretty damn unpopular.

Cities thrive not on fear but empathy, on cooperation not division.

That's the NYC we know and love. It has found expression in this movement. And it is rising up at the ballot box today.

I assert that The New York Times is still a source of excellence journalism. I know many on Bluesky have argued that The Times is not shouldering its responsibility to tell truth to power, but consider, please, these three headlines (and lede paragraphs) from the Times' headline email this morning:

Whenever people complain about the number of folks relying on food stamps, it is worth reminding them that SNAP is, by too large of a degree, a subsidy for corporations that refuse to pay a living wage and their political allies who reject public policy prescriptions to reduce income inequality.

In the NYT, 10/22, Ashley Ahn quotes Anita McBride, chief of staff for First Lady Laura Bush: “Betty Ford had the best quote for how special the East Wing is: ‘If the West Wing is the mind of the nation, then the East Wing is the heart.” That rings true. Trump is destroying the heart of America.

I need an accounting of all the companies contributing to Trump's Big Bloated Ballroom, so that I can put them on my growing boycott list.

From the Justice Department: "Former Congressman George ... Santos was sentenced ... to 87 months in prison for ... wire fraud and aggravated identity theft. ... Santos was ordered to pay restitution to his victims in the amount of $373,749.97 and $205,002.97 in forfeiture."

Nothin' to see here.
George Santos is a convicted criminal and genuinely bad person, caught stealing from a fund to get medical care for a veteran’s service dog, and other victims along similar lines.
A jury convicted him. But America now has a pro-fraud president—who also hates dogs and disdains vets—so Santos is free.

Trump told AG Pam Bondi to prosecute Letitia James-calling her “guilty as hell”

When the US Attorney wouldn’t do it, he replaced that lawyer with his personal attorney

And despite the fact that career prosecutors refused go forward

The DOJ got an indictment anyway

Marjorie Taylor Greene, of all people, is arguing that Republicans could reopen the government if they wanted to, using a tactic they used to confirm Trump nominees a few weeks ago. Her argument is veeeeery close to one made recently by Bill Scher in Washington Monthly.
Marjorie Taylor Greene apparently is reading me in the @washingtonmonthly.com washingtonmonthly.com/2025/10/01/s...

A great thread. Stick with it until the end. There was another post on Bluesky about the idea that even the Republicans, behind closed doors, are saying that Trump has dementia.
1. I could be wrong, but JB Pritzker may be the first Democrat to apply the d-word to Donald Trump. More importantly, the Illinois governor may be the first to link his criminality to his dementia. And! He may be the first to explain America’s existential crisis in context of a remedy.

I assert that The NY Times has changed its approach to writing about Trump. A good example is this piece by Shawn McCreesh.
