Breaking News: Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said he personally instructed the CDC to abandon its position that vaccines do not cause autism. The move underscores his determination to challenge scientific orthodoxy — in this case, that vaccines save lives — and bend the health department to his will.

In an interview, Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. cited gaps in vaccine safety research. His critics say he is ignoring a larger point: Vaccines save lives.

Relying on ChatGPT to teach you about a topic leaves you with shallower knowledge than Googling and reading about it, according to new research that compared what more than 10,000 people knew after using one method or the other.

this is super exciting —still of course we are limited in our inferences but so much better than y/n or likert scale questions. Bring on the more qualitative!

This is my adopted city
“Iowa City eliminated bus fares in August 2023 with a goal of lowering emissions… The two-year pilot program proved so popular that the City Council voted this summer to extend it another year, paying for it with a 1% increase in utility taxes and by doubling most public parking rates to $2 from $1”

With current technology, it is impossible to tell whether survey respondents are real or bots. Among other things, makes it easy for bad actors to manipulate outcomes. No good news here for the future of online-based survey research

I can no longer follow the plot of this show. I suspect the writers and actors can’t either. I don’t think they have a show runner.

excellent thread on heartening (cross educational “divide”) trends on racial and gender resentment. Worth your time.
Those claiming Dems should retreat on racial justice aren't hard-headed realists, they're pushing against the electoral tide rather than leaning into it. The story of Gen Z isn't about racist backlash or red-pilled young men. It's the most racially progressive generation in American history. 🧵

Former UVA president Jim Ryan, who resigned over the summer due to pressure from the Trump Administration, just shared this 12-page letter with the Faculty Senate, detailing his experience with the Board of Visitors and DOJ.

It's a surreal--and troubling--read.

To be clear, the GM preferential treatment is bad, but when I hear that incarcerated folks get to do yoga and pet puppies, I’m having a hard time seeing why we wouldn’t want this for all (most?) of them. Certainly we care about mental health, amirite?

There is ample evidence that we ceded this power to professional admins because we didn’t want to do it. The question is how to get it back
There was a time when universities and colleges had their administrators promoted from the faculty and subsequently return to the faculty. My undergrad alma mater's president was a faculty member. Higher Ed isn't the private sector: we don't need professional admins moving from one place to another.

And rather than driving the rich away, IPS researchers found that the number of millionaires has *increased.*

Really wild how all these Harvard scientists and mathematics guys constantly talked about how Jeffrey Epstein was this brilliant, "misunderstood" man and then you read his emails and he's clearly a barely literate lecher, extremely easy to understand
