Did you know that if you buy my book on Amazon, Jeff Bezos makes 5 times as much as I do on each copy sold? Sharing some behind-the-scenes book math on why buying directly from presses is best for EVERYONE (except Bezos) in my newsletter today! aubreyhirsch.substack.com/p/book-math

AI-generated copycat books are likely to increasingly become a problem for Amazon and it is not clear how it can keep up with it or what strategies are in place to control it, says Aviva Guttmann 👇 #BookSky

This was a lot of fun, chatting to Michelle, one of my favourite authors, about her brilliant ghost story, Dark Matter. You can watch the discussion on the link below - and Michelle even reads a bit of the book - it will give you tingles down your spine! 😱👻

BOG QUEEN is out today from @bloomsburybooksus.bsky.social! A literary murder mystery in which the victim is a two-thousand year old bog body. Also a story about the non-human world and who is really in charge here on earth, us or the bogs? geni.us/bogqueen

BEARING SOUTH

I want answers, but there are only the wild geese
Calling, high in the almost-dark, bearing south,
And me, stopped short, clutching a bag of groceries
On the doorstep of my not-quite home.
I feel the calm of their inner compass
And wonder if this is what we mean by certainty,
A deft arrowhead of wingbeats
In tune with the turning wind, the changing light,
A geography in their feathery breasts
Older than the names of continents.
A journey without thought of parting or arrival,
Only the press of forward motion,
The urgency and risk of it all,
A brief touch-down in stubble fields, then on,
The pulse of fellow flyers in the slipstream
And the clear voices calling in the dark:
I am here, I am alive,
I am here, I am alive.
