I wanted to share a side project I have been working on: CyRK github.com/jrenaud90/CyRK a #Python package that mimics much of the functionality of #SciPy solve_ivp but can perform #ODE integrations 100's x faster. If you are looking for a numerical integrator for your python project, check it out!
A black graph with white text. Y-axis is Average time; X-axis is number of required integration steps. There are several dots showing the performance of CyRK's cysolve_ivp, pysolve_ivp, and nbsolve_ivp functions compared to SciPy's solve_ivp. In all cases CyRK is significantly faster than SciPy. The plot shows the cysolve_ivp method to be the best in all circumstances.

Hi Internet! I'm Drew and THIS IS MY FACE.

If this GIF has ever brought you joy in the past, I humbly ask you to consider making a donation to the National MS Society. It would mean a lot to me and to those I know affected by the disease!

I'm actually fully saturated with students already, but I'd be happy to host postdoc fellows for the NHFP, the 51 Peg b, NSF AAPF, etc. Please feel free to reach out!

My doctor's new registration portal has old English as a preferred language option. Excited to discuss my aliments Beowulf style.
A online form that has a drop down selection for preferred language. After typing the letters "e" "n" "g" the recommended options in the list are "English, Old (ca. 450-1100)", "English", "English, Middle (1100-1500)".

I’m convening a session at a planetary science conference this fall and people keep withdrawing their presentations. So far every one has been withdrawn because of lack of travel support. It’s all folks coming from the US. This administration is killing scientific disciplines in big ways and small

#Roman is starting to look like a real telescope!
The Roman space telescopes primary mirror apparatus and solar panels are sitting on the floor in a giant clean room at NASA Goddard. The Roman space telescopes main instrument package and superstructure is surrounded by engineers in bunny suites in a giant clean room. Behind the telescope is a huge wall of filters cleaning the air.

Yeah, here's the graphical representation of how bad the ROSES consolidation of solar system programs is from research.ssl.berkeley.edu/~mikewong/bl...
A stacked bar chart showing the money allocated to all of the programs from ROSES24 that were consolidated into the single solar system science program in ROSES25. The ROSES24 stack totals 30+ million dollars while the new program is at 10 million dollars

For anyone unfamiliar, the ranks of GS-13, GS-14, and GS-15 are equivalent of assistant, associate, and full professor ranks among NASA civil servants. This is the letting go of over 2,000 faculty-level researchers. 🔭🧪

With cuts like these -- 5,000 planned cut staff through 2026, 1414 cut staff at Goddard Space Flight Center alone, where much of NASA Astrophysics is housed -- the United States effectively abandons its decades-old global leadership position in astrophysics.

Whoa.

That's a sprite, an elusive, high-altitude electrical discharge from a thundercloud photographed by NASA astronaut Nichole Ayers from the ISS earlier today.

With reported sightings going back more than a century, this phenomenon was first photographed in 1989.
