Previously on My Life Called So, in March '23, I quit Twitter and have been on Mastodon alone until today. Here, I'll chat w/ friends and promote projects. (I don't want to use Masto mods' limited resources for my BSP.) I also still blog, mainly at geraldso.blogspot.com.

I don't like that Superman: The Animated Series made Darkseid Superman's enemy b/c the writers didn't think Superman had a strong enough rogues' gallery. How has Superman endured going on 90 years w/o a strong rogues' gallery?

I've seen the Supergirl trailer and I like it. I don't know much of Supergirl's history, but I like how she differs from Superman. I'm sure the movie will show that.

Maybe old-fashioned, but most of the ppl I follow on social media I met in person years before.

I read about one of my favorite actors that "She does not participate in social media." I like her more now.

I was watching a very informative video about Sisyphus and video game development and was only distracted b/c the host repeatedly pronounced Camus "Camuss."

"Albert Camuss wrote an essay about Sisyphus."

It sure seems as if bigwigs buy media outlets to promote themselves.

I wonder if James Gunn's Supergirl will have the same theme music as his Superman. Different music would show their different personalities.

More posts against AI LLMs: The idea of creating an LLM based on a deceased loved one purposely preys on our lost connection, but every life is meaningful squarely b/c it's finite. We would surely waste life if we thought it could be perpetually preserved.

Ppl shouldn't seek psychiatric help from AI. That said, what's up w/ AI suggesting ppl harm themselves? That proves AI isn't the great help to humanity AI companies wish it to be.

I'm sorry. I also find it hard to watch Young Gibbs marry his future ex-wives. I don't know how I can root for someone making choices we know are wrong. By contrast there was nothing wrong w/ Gibbs mourning Shannon and Kelly. It showed faithfulness to his family.

Ai-themed ep of NCIS last night, written by Brian Dietzen and Jesse Stern, two of the show's best. The AI of it made it hard to watch for me. i think that was intentional. Still, AI is a problem in reality I don't need any more of in fiction.

A Donald Trump pinata was set on fire in Guatemala for the annual “Burning of the Devil.”

Seems fair.

As a human, I fundamentally cannot understand why other humans prefer GenAI to human achievement. As so many have said trying to warn us, why are you rooting for the thing trying to make you obsolete?

I posted I don't have a favorite Christmas movie. I think of "favorite" as a strong word, but it can also be faddish. "This is my favorite right now. It may lose my favor."

Anyway, I recommend VIOLENT NIGHT w/ David Harbour playing the real, jaded Santa Claus, stumbling into a hostage situation.

TV midseason or "fall finales" are a thing now. I preferred when they weren't labeled. They were still mostly cliffhangers that got you curious to tune in when the shows returned. I dislike the manufactured drama of the label. "Ooh, this is the fall finale."

I bought into the original DIE HARD such that out of the theater it took a while to remember it was summertime, not Christmastime.

I favor cold, short showers, but I also think I'd like a sauna, so it evens out. Short of a sauna, I'll take a blanket to snoodle up in. Winter is so cold.

Pity people who ask me to "reccomend a crime novel" for someone... I can't just do one. I end up writing a whole essay in an email as to why they might enjoy a ton of different books... you can take the boy out of the booksellers, but clearly you can't take the bookseller out of the boy...
