Previously on My Life Called So, in March '23, I quit Twitter and have been on Mastodon alone until today. Here, I'll chat w/ friends and promote projects. (I don't want to use Masto mods' limited resources for my BSP.) I also still blog, mainly at geraldso.blogspot.com.

"Perplexity AI" sounds more confounding than helpful. Did AI generate the name?

I don't have a Halloween display name, but here's Halloween-themed flash fiction I blogged in 2008. (I did just now cut a couple of lines.)

NCIS: ORIGINS sets up chemistry btwn Gibbs and Lala, but NCIS fans know Gibbs doesn't end up w/ Lala. He ends up w/ three ex-wives (played by Melinda McGraw, Kathleen York, and Jeri Ryan). There's suspense if you've never seen NCIS, but if that's so, would you watch ORIGINS?

Too many series are anxious to show links from the past to the character's known future: SMALLVILLE, KRYPTON, etc.
sogerald.bsky.social
This was a reaction article to the NCIS: ORIGINS Season 2 premiere: What does Lala's survival mean and what dilemma does it create for Gibbs?

My issue w/ prequel series is, knowing where the main character ends up, there's not much room to play w/ his backstory.

There's a TV article to the effect, "What does [series supporting regular]'s survival mean and what dilemma does it create for [series lead]?"

Series regulars surviving is a good thing, not a problematic one.

Some sites say there will be 20 episodes of NCIS: SYDNEY for Season 3. I approve, but are Australian TV seasons that long? Has SYDNEY gotten short seasons up to now?

What's the difference between 'immigrant' and 'emigrant'?

Jesse's backstory is having lost his job w/ the LAPD due to public drunkenness. Despite his age and tarnished record, Jesse is the most experienced on the small Paradise police force.
sogerald.bsky.social
Another reason ppl might think Jesse Stone is older is the average age of police chiefs in the US is 46, 11 years older than Jesse is first described; however, there's a strong sense Jesse was hired b/c the Paradise town council thought they'd be able to manipulate him.
sogerald.bsky.social
Correction: According to the synopsis of the Coleman sequel COLORBLIND, the man who turns out to be Jesse's son is "twenty-something," which can be as high as 29, older for ppl in their 30s trying to deny their age. Even if Jesse were 18 when he impregnated a girlfriend, that would make him 38 now.

Has Jesse Stone grown older than Spenser? Stone was introduced at 35 in NIGHT PASSAGE, Spenser at 37 in THE GODWULF MANUSCRIPT; however, Spenser stopped at "middle-aged" while Reed Farrel Coleman's sequels gave Jesse an 18-21 year-old son.

Meanwhile you move the original FBI to lower-leverage Monday night and use it to help WATSON's and CIA's ratings.
sogerald.bsky.social
Moving all the NCIS shows back to Tuesday night didn't seem a good ratings move to me, but I think the cancellation of two FBI shows had the most to do w/ it. Losing FBIs, you needed some other shows to stabilize the night. So you slot in the NCISes while making Friday FIRE COUNTRY night.

He also serves papers to actress Cynthia Farrell, played by Dana Delany, to whose home he later retreats after the comedian's killers take a run at him. He and Cynthia investigate further and in a tense moment, he proposes marriage.

Last night I posted Al Jarreau and David Sanborn's cover of "Since I Fell For You" was a favorite. I first heard it in the Season 6 premiere of Magnum, wherein Thomas travels to L.A. and gets entangled in the murder of a comedian he met on the flight.

I think Post's incidental music is too similar in MAGNUM, THE A-TEAM, and HUNTER. Oh, well.
sogerald.bsky.social
In his memoir YOU NEVER KNOW, Tom Selleck says he thought Freebairn-Smith's theme was off from the start and he pushed Don Bellisario to use Mike Post's theme in the opening creds, as it was already the incidental music in the episodes proper. Bellisario acquiesced.

My most unhinged literary opinion?

Literary/Literature is a genre of fiction and, as such, has that in common w/ all other genres of fiction.
