Gaus not locating super well. Hard to complain about a zero but hope he can find it in the next few innings.

This is the second time this week I’ve been forced to watch the Chicago Blackhawks, which would be a crime in any civilized society, but it did give me a couple thoughts
1) the only question about Nazar is exactly how good he’ll be
2) Spencer Knight looks like a true #1

I suppose I’ll have to fire off the hot take, be brave, and say: having no elite puck-moving dmen with two-thirds of the blue line being average-to-awful at moving the puck is, in fact, not great

I really try to not overreact to the first 20-ish games of the season but: Zachary Bolduc lol, lmao, things of that nature

Gally… buddy… how?

@netw3rk.bsky.social was listening to the serial killer pod, and had a general question: which of these 3 do you think has the most unsettling/brutal ending:
1 - The Vanishing
2 - Funny Games
3 - the original Speak No Evil

they can have a solid top-half-of-the-roster that might be able to hang with good teams, but the bottom half gets obliterated and that keeps teams in the Lottery while also being able to say "hey, look at the top-end talent we have!"

gonna be honest, ever since that season like 10 years ago when Buffalo traded any goalie that dared to win like 2 games in a row, I've been keeping an eye for sneak-tank moves and I think teams build an intentionally-awful bottom-6 to sneak-tank.

SJ's fourth line was outshot 4-1 and outscored 1-0 in 5:16 of 5v5 TOI against VGK.

Mukhamadullin played just 12:24 by SJ outshot VGK 9-8 in those minutes, outscoring them 2-1.

Of course, that 4th line stays together tonight, Misa is scratched again, and Mukhamadullin is also scratched.

Tweet-length review of Tron: Ares - yeah man, I dug it. I appreciate that it has an aesthetic that looks like nothing else, it looks great on a big screen, the sound track whips, and Jared Leto and Greta Lee are pretty good together. I had fun.

Thread here of good recent horror movies if you’re looking for something to watch tonight because the NHL is on a one-day hiatus four days into the season for some fucking reason

now that it's Spooky Season, I'm going to do my annual thread of horror movies from the last year or so that you might want to check out based on what you're in the mood for. They are all free options Prime, Netflix, and Tubi for maximum access and we'll skip mega-hits like Sinners and Weapons

I agree with the 'mitigate' losses thing, it's just a matter of how much can be mitigated. It feels like "you can either have all five fingers on your right hand chopped off, or you can have four of them chopped off and keep your pinky".

I'm interested to see what they do whenever Batherson gets back. I'm generally not a fan of breaking up lines when they're legitimately playing well, and if Greig-Pinto-Giroux keeps this up for a few games, they'll have quite the decision to make.

I'm a fan. If he truly is one of those "he's this team's 2C but he'd be a 1C on like 20% of the teams in the league", it's a franchise-changing event
slimcliffy.bsky.social
even if that's an upgrade, upgrading from AHL-level to fringe NHL-level just isn't enough to make up for how important Samberg is and how much the middle-6 is missing Lowry and Ehlers

back in August, I wrote about how Simon Holmström looked primed for a breakout this year substack.com/home/post/p-... and just watch him pick up the puck, beat the first guy, cut around the second, draw a third, and then a seam pass right to Shabanov
