Okay so I really hadn't planned on seeing this, but all of the buzz surrounding how bad it is has to be really curious so let's take a look and see what we got. #NowWatching

This is pure surrealism in the most wholesome way possible.

Because Peter Cullen really has come a long way from being the voice of Optimus Prime to starting out in something like this which is rather interesting, it's one of those things where you gotta appreciate an actor's humble beginnings.

There's always been something really interesting about the world and the whole concept of Tron, yet it seems kind of weird how revisiting what Tron is always leads to not having the concept be fully realized.

There's so much mythology & escapism about this world but it's not properly developed.

Trouble with Tron movies is not just the scripts, but also them obsessively making world of Tron look more and more mundane. Wanna dazzle the audience? Maintain the surrealness, the alieness of that world:

I'm all for just letting the past remain in the past.

There's no such thing as a "good live action adaptation of a cartoon". This is something that never worked and it just ends up being a waste of time and money.

And rightly deserved. You know you've made it when the art you make is featured on comics like these and they look fantastic as well

The art of physically drawing the film poster is something that takes a lot of careful precision, understanding of templates & how to make it be something you'd want to hang on your wall.

Drew Struzan accomplished that and created something that stands next to fine art.

Take a few minutes to appreciate Drew Struzan creating the original artwork for THE PHANTOM MENACE. Truly a master at work.

Even despite how "better" the visuals get, there just simply isn't anything about these worth getting excited for or even watching.

All of it is fake and all of it just feels so artificial and dead.
skullgrin140.bsky.social
It can't be understated how much of a legend Drew Struzan was when it came to the film poster, everything he worked on felt like magic & there was something about how each poster he painted just captured your imagination with each detailed brush stroke.

Thank you Drew...and godspeed.

landscape of branches and roots growing around a small puddle of water. a blue raven stands above it with a feather in his beak, peering down into the water. three small abstract landscape paintings. Green seaweed looking one, a green stone formation that can be a city or forest, and a green and yellow natural formation that can be a leaf breaking apart Two book cover paintings. a blue one with a man and a sword, looking tired and worn, and a burnt hand besides him. the background is abstract shapes hidden by misty swirls.

The second image is of a city. There is a crowd of people that are just forms, and one man standing out in a red trenchcoat and white eyes staring at the viewer. dark blue landscape of two woods meeting for a conversation. It can also possibly be a single tree split down the middle.

I haven't seen or thought about this movie in 5 years since it came out, alot has changed since then & it's still an uncomfortable, but very well crafted piece of cinema designed to rattle your nerves violently that it's interesting revisiting it after all these years.

You get the impression that when Kon left, an important part of the anime industry left with him & because of that it's never been able to recover because it doesn't have a visionary of that kind of imagination like Kon...

The work you create should never amount to the amount of social media attention you gain, the fact that you're able to do something and the fact that that generates a degree of attention is an even bigger reward than we give it credit for.

It took me a while to sit down and finish watching the 2025 re-adaptation of Anne Shirley.

This was beautiful right down to the last little detail, aside from the atmosphere being so pleasant it does a great job of adapting the material for new generations to enjoy.

I am genuinely concerned about how he's going to ruin the role of Skeletor for that damn He-Man film.

You could have picked a far better actor to play that character than Leto.

I'm probably not the only one who thinks that the character of Niander Wallace in Blade Runner 2049 should have been given to maybe Michael Wincott.

Seriously, as soon as he shows up your attention is immediately fixed on the guy because he will never do anything half-arsed.

Day 11 - Sea Scum

All of god's funny little creatures are precious to me 🦀🦞🐡🦑🐚🪸
A traditional art piece using a palette of deep yellows, oranges, and reds on a black background. The piece depicts a woman sitting on the ground with her legs crossed over, clutching to her chest starfishes and sea cucumbers of varying shades. Her face is covered with barnacles. Her skin is orangey yellow and her hair is dark red and flowing. Her eyes are sparkly and piercing blue.

I don't know what I love more about this.

The fact that this feels like a Yoshitaka Amano illustration brought to life or that the fluidity of the animation accompanied by the music provides something of great elegance to how this looks.
