I don’t know how many people have actually internalized this, but the vast majority of local Democratic operations are staffed and run by blue-haired little old ladies who have been doing this for 40 years and are funding it with bake sales, and are keeping the flame alive in a time when parties are as weak as they’ve ever been. If you are under the age of 50 and you show up and act normal for, like, 3 months, they will do whatever you want because they’re so excited to have a young person there. Parties are weak right now because of some factors that are outside of our control, but a lot of factors are within our control and the big one is that we just haven’t paid enough attention to the atomic-level units, and party infrastructure. If you strengthen those, then party identity as a whole will follow. Party strength as a whole will follow.

Samus Aran stands alone in a desert. The text box reads: "Samus Aran: Log 345539S. This part of the planet is quite sparse in biodiversity. My scanners continue to pick up on only minor flora and fauna. Most of them appearing to stay buried under the earth due to the surface’s cold temperature. My weapons are ready but I continue to sense little in the way of immediate threats. It would appear that for the moment..."

She sits down. The text box reads: "I can relax... I let the peace of the moment take me before I continue my mission..."

"HEDINO" is shouted. She looks to her right. The text box reads: "However something catches my attention..."

We see Hornet standing on a rock, her nail drawn and looking up at Samus. Samus looks down at her. The text box reads: "An invertebrate smaller than my hand seems to have acknowledged me. Threat is minimal... yet it seems to wear primitive clothing and utilize a weapon? Is it... sentient?"

Samus's open hand moves in front of Hornet as if offering her to stand on it. The text box reads: "I hold out my hand. I have no intention of killing this lifeform. For a moment it hesitates. But after a pause..."

Hornet jumps onto Samus's hand. The text box reads: "It appears to trust me... How fun."

Samus stares down at Hornet as she rests on her open palm. The Text box reads: "Gray Voice often said I had a way with animals. Though bugs were not particularly high on my list... this creature however I feel an odd kinship with. As though... we have experienced similar lives. If this creature truly does have sentience, I can only wonder what other beings here do..."

Hornet looks up at Samus while standing on her open palm. The text box reads: "Being who I am, I had assumed I had seen almost all the universe had to offer. All the horrors and wonders and strange things it could throw at me... And yet this simple bug has made me realize that there are still worlds, still secrets, still things even I do not truly comprehend. Civilizations I may never know exist. Things that go on underneath me I have no knowledge of... it is oddly humbling."

Hornet is brought up close to Samus's helmet. Hornet stares into Samus's visor and sees a reflection of herself in it.

Samus puts Hornet back down onto the rock. Hornet jumps off. The text box reads: "Safe journey little spider. May you find what you are looking for..."

Hornet curls into a ball. The text box reads: "... huh... I did not know it could do that... Is this a new ability it developed?"

Hornet rolls away, off the rock and back across the sands.

Samus looks up to the sky. The text box reads: " I should get going."

You can't treat a game like it's the universal 100% definitive answer to ALL TABLETOP RPGING EVERYWHERE and not expect somebody to dissect and challenge that dubious claim!

D&D fans get their ass mad when you criticize the game for failing to meet the standards of being applicable to all tones and all genres and all contexts when they're the ones who put the game up to that standard to begin with!

But because D&D exists in the context of it being THE tabletop game? The one everyone talks about? The thing you can't escape? The game people go 'why would I play that when I can just hack (my favorite edition) to do that?' I have to judge it by that standard.

Dungeons and Dragons is one of those weird cases where if I could just treat it as a random tabletop RPG it's honestly fine if not pretty good. Not for every kind of game or for everyone but it's got some stuff going for it.

he seems to be under the impression that PVP battles are like the core of the game and not a side mode that exists for freaks. It's like saying FF8 is just Triple Triad.

Really though: I know it sucks to watch your character lose shit and have to deal with that. But there really isn't an exact science here and sometimes you need to just tank viability for the health of the game.

I think it's fine for anime to reboot and remix content the same way superheroes do. I loved the 90's Spider-man cartoon but still saw value in Spectacular and other Spider-man cartoons. Stampede is just another interpretation of the same building blocks and pieces that made up the original Trigun.
