I’ve lost track of how many protests I’ve been to this year- all around Southern California. And they were all peaceful, positive, fun festival-like. Laughter, singing, flag-waving, chants, marching, great speakers, funny characters & signs. True Americana. The Rs lie because they’re afraid of US.

Henrietta Lacks (1920–1951) was an African American woman whose cancer cells, taken without her knowledge or consent, became the first immortal human cell line—known as HeLa cells—and revolutionized medical research worldwide. Born in Virginia, Lacks was treated for cervical cancer at Johns Hopkins Hospital, where doctors collected her tumor cells during biopsy.
Unlike normal cells, Henrietta’s cells could survive and multiply indefinitely in the lab, providing an unprecedented tool for scientists. HeLa cells have since been crucial in developing the polio vaccine, cancer treatments, gene mapping, and countless other medical advances.
For decades, Lacks’s contribution went unrecognized, and her family was unaware of her cells’ impact. Her story raised important ethical questions about patient consent and medical research. Today, Henrietta Lacks is honored not only for her unintentional scientific legacy but also as a symbol of the need for respect, equity, and transparency in healthcare.

Amazing. As a cancer patient, I find it extremely moving & meaningful. Once I pass, my body will go to my University research hospital. Hope it can help like Henrietta has helped many millions, like me.😍

Agree. You feel like we‘re working on this, together. My protest today, in Orange, CA was surprisingly large. My daughter & I have been attending many protests since March. They’re love of country fests, & growing bigger each month. You’re right about the energy- it’s an amazing thing to feel.
