I've never seen any movie more often than I've seen 'Diner'. Family tradition. So when I finally got around to seeing this movie a few years ago, it was a strange homecoming in my memory. "The man in jail is always for freedom. Except, if you'll excuse me, JJ, I'm not in jail."
‘Sweet Smell of Success’ is “a bleak and unsparing depiction of obeisance before power in a morally bankrupt culture,” @splicedpersonality.bsky.social writes: crookedmarquee.com/classic-corn...

Everyone is exhausted because life is too complicated now. But I don't think the solution to that should be to offload some of that complication to a computer program. I prefer to be the person who does the things in my life. What am I supposed to be doing besides?

Bring back TasteTations and it will resolve roughly 80% of problems affecting Canadians today.
Hershey's TasteTations (1996-2001): A line of bite-sized hard candies, marking Hershey's first attempt to enter the hard candy market (which they frequently noted in the commercials). Available in flavors such as chocolate, butterscotch, peppermint, caramel, and chocolate-mint

Warriors in '26, lock it in, y'all. I remember, back in '21 around Chrismtas, idly thinking I should put something down on the Warriors taking it. I did not. So I am going to be weird like this until Steph hangs it up.
Jimmy Butler scored 31 and made all 16 of his free throws in the opener. The Warriors are 24-7 in regular season games with Butler.

“Everyone pays attention to Steph. I have the easy job.”

Story from Los Angeles.
Steady Butler, 'matured' Kuminga lift Warriors
Jimmy Butler, with a focus on getting to the line and making free throws, and Jonathan Kuminga, with an offseason contract standoff behind him, helped lead the Warriors to a season-opening win over th...

Another day, another barrier comes down between the metaphor of this man's actions and the physical reality. Is it on-the-nose yet?

I wish I could remember who asked the question, but it's never left my head since I heard it.

Setting aside for a SECOND all the mistakes these guys made... why were they all so eager to have sex in the same room with each other? Is this normal behaviour?

How many times do I gotta cuss before my phone stops assuming that I'm trying to use the phrase "he'll yeah"???

I'm no good at making or sticking to a budget, but I rotate my dishes and cutlery. Two equally valid and consequential adult skills.
Whenever I put cutlery back into the drawer after the dishwasher, I always move the spoons around and bring the old ones to the top. It's nothing to do with hygiene, I just don't want the spoons to get upset about not making tea.

This would be a pretty great year to sweep any leagues we can, across the board. Just on the off-chance that someone in the current U.S. administration might take some joy from their favourite team doing well. They get nothing. And it'll be their fault. The fans will tear them limb from limb.

This is the way
dig this home featured in the new architectural digest. it's a 1906 tudor in pasadena, originally built as a horse stable for a large estate and now converted into a home.

This complaint is only going to go away once people stop sharing recipes on the internet. I have to imagine the data scrapers are hard at work developing a way to make that happen.
Normalize just posting a recipe with no backstory at all.

My favourite tidbit about fears of the end of the world (correct me if I'm misremembering): records in Europe showed a distinct slowing of the construction of new churches in the latter years of the 900s, because folks figured the new millennium was going to bring the Second Coming.
TikTok served me a video from someone who earnestly seems to believe the biblical rapture is happening on Tuesday, Sept. 23.

Checking hashtags, she’s not the only one. This shit always freaks me out. You never know what people will do when they think it’s the end.

There has GOTTA be an account that's doing something similar without making it sound as dreadful. Anybody?

Okay, this is as far as I've gotten:

Two weeks ago, we had Kirk, Spock, and Bones.
Now we're, uh... heh, what's with all the bones disappearing, huh? No Bones about it, we're... it's time to walk the Spock, and talk the, uh....

If Kimmel getting censored is something of a turning point, it'll seem silly to us in the moment. But when I have dishes waiting to be washed, isn't it silly to only start filling the sink once the 4th butter knife goes in? Why not the 3rd? Point is, you start some time. And the work is the work.
Incredibly absurd that Kimmel is what does it but honestly I wouldn't be at all surprised at this point

I still don't know how or when or if our species has overcome this problem. What's stronger than force? What's more final than death?
When one side generally believes that all people have the right to exist and should be cared for and the other side believes only certain people get to be people and not-people should die, one side is more willing to resort to violence over another and people need to recognize that.

Sometimes I have to ask if our species is 100% absolutely going to extract as much as we possibly can of every useful resource we can find in the ground. Is it even possible for us to leave it untouched? Are we capable of that?
