De’Anthony Melton and Jonathan Kuminga were part of a 5-on-5 scrimmage at Chase Center today with the Santa Cruz Warriors. Two quarters. Both got through it well.

Kerr on Melton: “The toughest challenge for him will be rhythm…Physically he looks really good.”

The Warriors assigned De’Anthony Melton, Jonathan Kuminga and Gui Santos to Santa Cruz so they could scrimmage with the G-League team today. Kuminga and Melton late stages of injury return, Santos to get some conditioning. They’ll be recalled after.

Asked Jonathan Kuminga on the way out of the locker room last night about his return from knee tendinitis: “Soon,” he said. Didn’t give a specific date but sounded like his plan was to increase court activity this week. He’s missed the last six games.

It’s now listed as right sciatic nerve irritation for Al Horford. Steve Kerr told reporters he’d miss at least three games. Warriors frontcourt is beat up. Jonathan Kuminga remains out with knee tendinitis and Draymond Green is questionable vs Jazz with a mid-foot sprain.

Bad home loss for the Warriors to open the homestand. They gave up 21 offensive rebounds and 28 second chance points to the Blazers. Lost 127-123. Steve Kerr shifted to a bigger lineup in the second half, but it didn't solve issue. They're 9-9 through 18 games.

Steve Kerr said Jonathan Kuminga is getting a workout in on the court currently. He said hope is Kuminga practices/scrimmages on Sunday prior to determination if he can return Monday from knee tendinitis.

Steph Curry is out tonight in Miami after tweaking his ankle twice on this road trip. Jimmy Butler is questionable with a lower back strain. Draymond Green and Buddy Hield are questionable with an illness. Jonathan Kuminga remains out. Al Horford is out.

Steph Curry tweaked his right ankle in the second Spurs game and again in the first half tonight. He said he will see how it responds after flight/sleep, but seems very iffy for the Heat game in Miami tomorrow night.

Steve Kerr said he’s “concerned” about the increase in soft tissue injuries across the NBA. His medical staff believes the increased pace paired with the schedule has led to it.
