Today, I saw a driver overtake a stopped bus and plough through a pedestrian crossing. He beeped three times as he sped though. The beeping was to warn people because, as he had overtaken a bus, he had zero visibility of who was about to step out onto the crossing.

But sure, more hi-vis, everyone
👀 Can you see me now?

The importance of visibility on our roads cannot be understated, particularly for vulnerable road users including pedestrians, cyclists, e-scooter drivers and motorcyclists.

Australia recorded ZERO cases of cervical cancer in women under 25 for the first time since they started tracking the cancer in the 80s.

This is the power of vaccines.

The HPV vaccine is extremely effective at preventing cancer.

Viruses can be oncogenic. Get your vaccines and protect yourself!
newsGP - Australia set for world-first cervical cancer elimination
Vaccination programs have played a key role, and GPs remain ‘instrumental’ in boosting screening rates to reach the 2035 target.

Bob Vylan put on a great show in Dublin last night. They seemed pretty amused by the spontaneous "Death, death to the London Met!" chant that the crowd started. Epic mosh pit action, too.

I noticed that my local racist cllr Malachy Steenson ran for the Workers Party back in the 2000s

Does anyone know if there's a link between him and the INLA/IPLO Gerry Steenson?

If any of ye know Alan Shatter...

Can you tell him that the G-spot is a coded reference for Gaza, so that he can include it the think-piece some Sunday rag is inevitably going to print for him?

The one billion is a figure from before COVID (when the publicly acknowledged number was €250 million). So probably somewhere north of €2B now.

Imagine what kind of luas system you could put into the city for a quarter of that.

Another instance of copying British policy without any reference to how well things are going over there.

We do it on housing, on education, social welfare, privatisation etc. just with a lag that ranges from months to decades.

And never with an eye towards how those policies are working out

I've had more than one lecturer over the years tell a class that they had a book which was a good match for the course, but that we should not buy it, because only Elsevier would benefit from that.

And then they'd helpfully point out that there are websites where it can be found.

And rakes of people see apparitions on toast.

Scientists say it's time to consider whether we should tell the people who really believe it's Jesus on the toast that they're dumber than bottled shite.

The grave issue here is that the only credible threat to Ireland comes from our rapidly destabilising nearest neighbour.

I can see why lots of countries that were invaded by Russia want to be part of Nato now.

But I'm just not sure whom can we join forces with for our problems.
Despite these high stakes, Ireland has no dedicated intelligence agency, just four working navy vessels and the smallest defence budget in the EU. In fact, the only thing the Irish navy can do when it spots a suspicious ship lurking is say “hello”.

The only thing that might get me to buy the Sunday Independent is if they did a full spread on Ireland's 15 least sympathetic households (who just happen to be the Dartmouth Sq residents who are objecting to the Metro being built).

As someone who's been trying to lift files off old hard drives with bad sectors for an older friend of mine recently..... Do make sure you have copies, and backups.

Noting exists digitally unless you've three copies
I'll add academics, writers, and anyone else who relies on their local files. I've had laptops self-destruct the evening before leaving on an international flight for fieldwork in a low-tech area. A quick laptop purchase, then my backed-up files on thumb drives (expensive at the time) saved me.
Unsolicited artist advice of the day: if you're a freelancer with no back up devices or storage, remember to pick a few things up in the black Friday sales. Even a pen drive to back up your projects so if you have a catastrophic hard drive failure you wont lose everything..learn from my mistakes. 😅

It's something that I talk about with my pals but I never hear talked about in general - my world was unimaginably more violent when I was a kid.

And I don't mean getting smacked - though my most 80s memory was watching a 5y.o. get kicked and slapped down an aisle of Dunnes Stores in Kilinarden.
