I think its weird that Izzy became totally chill and not bitchy. I think he should have continued to suck at least a little!! I want sweet healing resolution w Ed but I think they need to scream at each other (or otherwise express the steaming pile of hurt feelings) before they can talk

it fucking sucks. part of it is that people engage w art for such a short amount of time, like even if they love it, its like <20 seconds to look at it and like it and repost it and on to the next!

anyways my most popular posts (with a few exceptions) are sketches that took 1-2hrs. sketches have a life to them in their imperfection that can get lost in more polished stuff.

(also i also tend to draw my most self indulgent chubby ed pinups as sketches. that may have something to do with it)

someone told me you learn more from a bunch of mediocre drawings than one flawless one and both will take the same amount of time!

make peace w making and SHARING imperfect art and things you aren't proud of. sharing can super be fun bc you never know what is gonna resonate with others

other art advice !! find some brushes you like and stick with them. using lots of different brushes can be visually distracting. I have a pencil I like that use for all sketching and highlighting, I use the gauche tool for 99% of coloring & shading. i have a few favorite texture tools for ambiance

i guess last note is I do use opacity settings for shadows, which are a complementary color to the highlights, layer setting multiply, using some kind of semi-transparent brush (I'm wedded to the gauche tool)

it also makes you fast. i do like to take my time with things and used to spend like 40 hours on each painting trying to get it right but the thing about art is its never gonna be right. at some point you gotta participate in the "stop touching it challenge" when you stop touching it.

i guess other advice is after you have a sketch that is fine just dont erase anything until the verryyyyy end clean up time. it slows you down and makes you second guess yourself. live with your choices or draw over the top of them and keep moving it makes you brave and it makes you learn !! !

one hack to avoid drawing fabric is making your characters some combination of naked and in leather. this makes them more seixier also.

just say NO to accurate light mixing, nuance, realistic reflection! those do NOT Belong in imaginationland where everything looks awesome, every light is a stage light, every surface is reflective.

(one caveat, most fabric sucks due to not being shiny, consider lightly cross hatching highlights)

i keep trying to make a lighting tutorial bc i get questions about it a lot but it all comes down to

- pick a light source
- pick a color for the light source
- draw highlights with 100% opacity layer, 100% opacity tool, no effects
